As an elevator technician i want to first of all apologise for being stuck in d elevator for dat long, and if truly there were up to 20 ppl in d elevator then dat is first of all wrong dat is assuming its a 16 passengers lift. Two, there was suppose to be a standby technician for a place like dat. Three, if its not sicher or ard lift then that's their mistake, forget lift companies that are living on past glories.

Like any other advancement, Lifts are made in different sizes and are designed to accommodate different numbers of people.

If you visit the Dubai airport for instance you will see lifts that are really large and can carry beyond 20 people.

Maybe the one at the Intercontinental Hotel is of that size.

By the way, the maximum number of people is usually boldly indicated in the or around the lift.

Nothing like village factor here. What happened is just purely science. Lift are design for a specific load bearing capacity depend on the facility. Instead of falling off counter weight and cause damage to life and property, it automatically switch to emergency mode when it sense weight exceeding the preset value.
In old relay and contactor lift, it cause overload on the inverter thereby stop the process, in such the lift stops and the passanger might get stuck in between floors. That means they need to use the man hole on the top of the lift. Jabor4Naija good job
