Morning, there has been so many cases of Christians seeing their pastors as mini gods up to the point of idolatory. You hear things like papa said , some even pray in the name of their pastor while others use the pictures of their pastors to pray. I've seen some cases where some even pray on the chair of their pastors for healing. The caveat is if the Holy Spirit is the one who truly gave then the instructions to do all these things then no problem; it's between them and God but in cases I've seen people do them to idolise their pastors to the point of idolatory However we need to be enlightened a little.

This issue cuts across all churches. From the Catholic to the white garment to the Pentecostal. The fact of the matter is that no pastor or bishop or church leader is a teacher (rabbi) in the true sense of it. Church leaders are choose by GOD and are given divine understanding of things of the spirit by the holy spirit. However the true teacher is Jesus Christ . All these pastors are just like your class captain or class governor in schools. Class captain's will write exams alongside normal students. The one who has written exams and passed in flying colours is Jesus Christ. He's the only one who can teach and comfort us with the holy spirit and he can decide which vessel to use to pass the message.

The pastors are like vessels or containers or cups that Jesus uses. Most times when God chooses a pastor or a Christian leaders to do his work, he chooses who he wants. It's not the person who fasts most or prays most he chooses. He may even choose chronic sinners like the case of Paul. Pastors are cups that receive the fresh living waters of the word of God. But nowadays, you find people even praising the cup and putting the cup on large billboards and even praying by the God of the cup while relegating the living water inside. God is powerful, even if there is no cup , God can be giving us messages from the clouds that we will be hearing directly. God can even use a goat as a cup to pass his message. Remember, the pastor is a class captain or governor, he may be a model to pass the exam to enter heaven but he hasn't passed . Only Jesus has passed.

Another great danger in focussing on the cup by church members is that when the pastor doesn't have any living water in his cup anymore , members don't notice. If you focussed on the living water, when a pastor is no longer filled with the holy spirit, you would know. In the true sense of it the cup is never in vacum. It's either the living water or the dead water. The holy spirit or the evil spirit. The evil spirit in the cup may not be the opposite of the holy spirit but a clone with some little impurities that you may not notice if you have been focussing on the cup. It's those little impurities that guarantees hell fire while giving the false impression that it's the holy spirit still in the cup."Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world" (1 John 4:1). John warned us to test, examine and scrutinize to discern if the spirit is good or evil. The message bible version of the same verse says "My dear friends, don’t believe everything you hear. Carefully weigh and examine what people tell you. Not everyone who talks about God comes from God. There are a lot of lying preachers loose in the world"
Thus the pastor may still be preaching "well" to you but it's not from the Holy Spirit.

This is why we have not had any Great revival in years as Gbile Akanni asked in one of his sermons , Who takes the Glory ? I also ask this morning, who takes the Glory ? The teacher or the class captain/governor ?

May God helps us to focus on the living water. And may the holy spirit give us divine wisdom, knowledge and understanding. I live you with an excerpt of an interview held with Ruth Elton the only child of Pa Elton. The link is not functional anymore but I copied it before the site went down.

Can you tell us some of your father’s legacy?

Link of an interview with Ruth Elton pa Eltons only child.

Mama Elton: Daddy had so many legacies, but the most spectacular was towards the end of his life. He began to perceive where the trend would lead to, so his message began to confuse a lot of people. He began to limit the number of invitation he honored and turned down many. He would prefer to preach in a little gathering under a small shed than to honour a major conference that had his name written bodily on the handbill. He began to warn about the spirit of Babylon pervading the church. He emphatically warned against the taking of titles and building of empires. He declared that this would usher in seasons of apostasy for the church, and men would begin to commercialize the gospel. He decried what the American Christianity was turning into, he discouraged the Nigerian church from patterning after it.

God bless you and have a great Sunday.

Ok, so Jesus Christ is the one we ought all to listen to, since after all, we are meant to be His followers, not followers of pastors/Preachers/Prophets/Leaders/GOs etc.

Where did Jesus Christ tell you that God chooses Pastors or Christian leaders?
Why did God through Jesus Christ install His own Spirit inside of every one of His followers, if His plan all along was to send you other people called Pastors or Christian leaders to lead you? Doesn't that make the Spirit of God redundant?

Where in scripture did Jesus Christ uplift the cup in the manner that you continue to? What did Jesus Christ tell His followers as far as authority and leadership?

Ok, so you chastise others for calling their pastors or whatever "papa, but you call your own "daddy". I wonder what Jesus meant when He said to call no man "Abba, Father"?

Good Afternoon, I believe first of all that you have a deep understanding of spiritual things and can decipher what I was trying to say however just in case you don't let me have a second go.

Every pastor has not passed the test only Jesus. No matter how annoited a pastor is, he will be judged . The pastor is like a class captain in a class who is to coordinate and not stand like he's the teacher. The class captain is also a student . The pastor shouldn't be in between you and Jesus but rather point you in the way as I spired by the holy spirit. Praying in the name of God of kobojunkie unless as led by the holy spirit is wrong .

Another danger about the spirit of God in followers / pastors is the ambiguity. There are some people who have gift of the spirit because of the Grace of God upon their lives. In other words they work for God but they don't walk with God. Those are the people God will say he doesn't know in the last days even though they will make a case that they did marvelous works in the name of Jesus. In the white garment fold for example, this is common practice. You see highly gifted spiritual people with spiritual gifts but their lifestyle isn't right as they have multiple wives and fornicate. In the earlier days great healing Evangelists like Emmanuel Omotunde Omoniyi and Daniel Orekoya performed so much miracles but there has been various commentaries on their ways of life . The gifts of the spirit to work for God carries so many people away especially followers who are not grounded. I believe you are grounded and understand what I'm saying but many dont.

About the daddy comment , Ruth elton is the daughter to Pa Elton who was a missionary who spent decades in Ilesha. Pa Elton worked with many ministers from the likes of Ayo babalola in the 1940s' to the likes of Idahosa, Gbile Akanni, Adeboye and others in the 1980s. The daddy the quote was referring to was her biological father .

Ok. So where does Jesus Christ tell us that Pastors are to point us in ways as inspired by the Spirit of God? Where does Jesus Christ talk of pastors or having them as class captains? Essentially, if we are all students and the Pastor is just a class Captain, where is the place of the Spirit of God who lives inside of every student? What is His job if the Pastor is necessary to point the students back to the Spirit of God living inside of the very student? undecided

Is it even possible to work for God and not walk with God? undecided

Here is a question. How different are these people who you claim to be highly gifted spiritually any different from healers, psychics, etc? How can they be of God if you are aware that they do not walk with God though?
In the book of Acts, there was a magician who was claimed a healer, I believe his name was Bar Simon or something like that. Now, what difference is there between this Bar Simon and the Highly gifted Spiritual people you mentioned above? undecided undecided

Wait for a second, are you trying to suggest that the Spirit of God is to blame for gifting these people or something? How can the Spirit of God be to blame when the fruits produced by these men don't even add up to them having the Spirit of God to begin with?undecided undecided
