Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State deserves an award for his vocal nature and the role he has played in ensuring that Operation Amotekun not only comes to stay, but in also ensuring that the lives and properties of the people of the South West are protected.

The past few days has been an interesting one. Aside from the Supreme Court verdict that ousted the governor of Imo State, the declaration of Operation Amotekun as illegal by the federal government is a topic that is yet to be exhausted by lawyers, political analysts, security experts and the general public.

Amotekun is the Yoruba name for Leopard. An initiative of the governors of the South West, Operation Amotekun was designed to complement the efforts of the existing security apparatus to protect the lives and properties of everyone resident in the south west.
