I would have said you should invest in the money markets or fixed deposit, but the rates are very low right now..

Considering the relativity of the bolded, you have quite a wide berth. I would however suggest that if all you have is 1.8, then split the money into three and use two parts for a reasonable sized business. The caveat here is that you will manage the business directly by yourself. If you are to manage the business by proxy then do not exceed 500k investment.

Regarding the business to invest in, I would suggest a trading business. It is one of the easiest businesses one can consider. It is also one of the safest and most secure models that you can consider as a new entrant into business. It is so secure that it is almost risk free. Several models exist ranging from fixed to mobile distributorship, retailing and a variety of other models.

Do also note that trading especially as regards FMCG distributorship has very marginal profits but three things make it an investors delight;

1. The relative security of your funds. The risk involvement here is so minimal that it is almost Zilch percent.

2. Your money (capital is always in a liquid state and you can divest your capital almost immediately in the majority of cases.

3. The profits may be low but they are very consistent and they never fail. An increase in your turnover translates to a direct increase in profitability.

My advice.

*Don't push all to one business. Make sure you split it up to at least three. If u want to focus on one then start from like 40 percentage of the overall capital.

* Don't employ people to run it for you at first be the boss and manage it for a while before letting it out to be managed by a trustee.

* Have a good business plan and strategies. Don't just go into any business just because people are doing well in it but because you understand how it is done

* Your business should focus on solving problems and not just making money. This will help stabilize your earnings.

I won't advise you on a business to invest in but take the above seriously and you would Excel in whatever you do.

Am looking forward to start a business that has been on my mind for long too this year.....although I am been delayed because of money but I hope very soon. Things will fall in place

If you want to run it yourself, then you can try poultry production. just start with 500 point of lay birds. and you will start counting your money almost the same week you started if the point of lay are of 20 weeks, but if they are of 16-18 weeks it means it will take about 2-3 weeks after before you start making your money back. this will not cost you more than 1.2M for initial capital, I mean; the birds plus cage plus feeding for the first month.

and if you want a business you want to invest in, I am a business man with 5 years of experience in business. there is a business I am launching now, I need investors and that's why I am using my web design skill to organise training so as to raise more fund for the idea. this idea will be launched in Ibadan, it's a daily money generating idea. If you decide to go into poultry then make sure you do a trial run with just 5 - 10 birds so you can understand the business.

It's very possible for all your money to go to waste if you rush into a business you do not understand
