A points-based immigration system could be in place two years earlier than originally planned, according to reports.

Home Secretary Priti Patel is reportedly set to tell her cabinet colleagues that Britain should implement an Australian-style system before the end of the year - to coincide with the end of Britain's transition period with the EU.

A government source told the Daily Express: "We need to deliver change and businesses need to be prepared for uncontrolled migration of low-skilled workers to end this year.

"There is a clear drive for talented and skilled workers from around the world to come to the UK, but we also need to see a reduction in the number of unskilled workers entering the UK and that's why this will be coming to an end."

The reports come as Boris Johnson called for the UK to be the "investment partner of choice" for Africa and said his government would put "people before passports".

He said: "Change is coming and our system is becoming fairer and more equal between all our global friends and partners, treating people the same, wherever they come from.

In the ‘skilled independent’ route of Australia, a candidate must earn a minimum of 65 points fromthe points table below, although often in practice more points than this areneeded because only the highest ranked candidates are invited to apply formigration. In June 2019 as the migration ‘program year’ drew to a close, applicants had to score at least 85 points to be invited, up from 70 points sixmonths earlier in December 2018.

Japan get points based immigration route?

Yes. It has been so since 2012 and was revised recently to make for the difference I explained below.

But the requirements, I believe, are quite difficult for most Nigerians. One of which is the salary required (which constitutes 50% of one's entire points): ¥10M annual salary equivalent of 32M naira. However, it's faster than Canada - 2 years to get PR and become qualified to attain citizenship within a year. If you are qualified for the fast-tracked route, you get PR within a year and citizenship within two years, altogether three years, you become a Japanese with the passport (the world's most powerful). Moreover, Japan is one of the safest countries globally with Tokyo - the world's most populated city - being first and Osaka placing third according to the EIU. Three times in a row. Unemployment rate is extremely low with more job offers than job seekers. In 2018, 98% of her university graduates found jobs within three months.

Permanent residency and get Citizenship is different in Japan.
Citizenship is become Japanese.
But Permanent residency is not become Japanese.
Permanent residency can't have family register, right to vote etc.

Anyway, you know about Japan very well smiley
Thank you so much!!

Me I am just after the proposed 2-year post-graduate work permit. If one can just secure the funds for a one-year Masters, then you're as good as close to possessing a PR.
