Hello guru, I use a 2005 Pontiac vibe bought mid last year, I noticed the rpm never rises above 3000, my average speed is 80 to 100kmh. Please is this normal?

God bless

this is not normal. a blocked exhaust usually shows this same symptoms. for confirmation test, find a panel beater to help remove the exhaust. for ease, you can consider removing the upstream o2 sensor, then try rev the engine. if it revs without any problem, then you have a blocked exhaust.
pls kindly note this is just one of many other causes o.

When driving or when idling?

When driving, no CEL, if not that I was curious due to a YouTube video I watched on how to tell when your automatic transmission changes gear by looking at the tachometer and listening to the engine sound, I wouldn't have even noticed.

The gearing determines the engine speed. 3000 rpm at 80 kmh is pretty high for big displacement engines but about normal for smaller engines. I will assume it is a automatic transmission

Yes it is an automatic, 1.8ltr inline engine. Normally at around 80kmh is rev would be between 2000 to 3000 rev

The engine revs are fine for the speed you are traveling. You can experiment. On start off leave the transmission in 2 and watch it rev past 3k. Then manually shift to the next higher gear and it should do the same. In drive it will put you in the most best gear to maximize fuel economy.

Op do this test below

Park on a long stretch of straight and smooth road. Make sure there isn’t any traffic in front of you for at least 100meters. Start the car and put it on neutral gear first, push your throttle and rev the engine.1. Did it rev past 3000rpm?

Now shift to drive and again floor it. Your engine rpm should rise sharply as your car accelerates, try to keep your eye on your tachometer.2. does your gear up shift at exactly the same 3000rpm? or does it do so above or below (watch for the first three gear changes).

3. Then when you get to the 80kmph tell us what gear your car is cruising on?

Maybe we can better understand exactly how your car is behaving

You have no problem car is normal like some one said, switch your gear to 1 or 2 not D and you will see your rpm pass 3000 if you intend to surpass the required speed for that lower gear
