The Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has again given assurance that the

South-west geopolitical zone had no plans to secede from Nigeria by the launch of the regional security outfit, named Amotekun.

He said the region remains a part of Nigeria, and would continue to be a part of Nigeria.

According to him, the region is committed to the nation’s indivisibility and unity.

Mr Fayemi gave the assurance on Monday when he hosted a pan-Yoruba development interest group, the Oodua Progressive Union (OPU) Worldwide, who were led to his office by the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Bisi Egbeyemi, Mr Fayemi said “nobody should entertain any fear of secession by the South-west over the launch of Amotekun” which he said was meant to protect all Nigerians resident in the region.

He explained that governors in the South-west decided to establish Amotekun to tackle criminal activities like armed robbery, kidnapping, destruction of lives and property and give assurance of safety to all residents.

“Amotekun is not political, it was established for the protection of our people and stem the tide of armed robbery, kidnapping, illegal destruction of lives and property,” he said.

“This is the first time that the region is united on the need to raise a security platform to complement the existing security agencies to protect the lives and property of our people which is our constitutional duty.

“I also want to say that the South-west is not seceding from Nigeria. The zone remains part of Nigeria and it will remain committed to a united and indivisible Nigerian federation.”

it is simple politics

North needs access to the ocean for survival, Southwest has it, North need a market to sell their perishable agricultural product and SouthWest has it, North needs buyers for its Cows, SouthWest eats meat more.. Southwest needs Northern voting strenght to continue ruling Nigerian economy...

If you look closely SouthWest controls the Banking sector, the Entertainment sector, Local Comuinication sector, the Power Generating (gencos) sector, and many more sectors that funds Nigeria's non oil sector

Last Last , should Nigeria breakup today, economic asset like refinery, power plants, seaports standard guage rail are all situated in Southwest, even most Oil companies operate from Southwest,

There is this Hausa proverb " The Bird that calls, the rain, will only be the victim of that rain fall".
The divisibility of Nigeria is only matter of time, the statistics shows, 10 generation from now.
However a leopard that invites a lion for dinner, should not serve grass as food, for the leopard shall become dinner. These SW gorvenors should stand up to their responsibility of paying the salaries of these leopards before they turn lions, under the influence of corruption & greed.

Only a cesspit like Nigeria see Seccession a bad thing. This myopic veiw is responsible for the calamity we're facing today. The state sponsored genocide against Christians to reclaim and possess their God given land is committed under one Nigeria. Yet to unity beggers, seccession is a bigger crime than genocide.
Seccession is not a bad thing. In the absence of common ground and ideological differences, seccession becomes the best option.
Seccession from Nigeria will afford newly born nations to take charge of their own affairs and develop faster with time. Do Nigerians have any idea of the huge resources being used in the name of fighting boko haram in north east? Just imagine a new born nation without any boko haram to worry about. Newly born nations will be able to channel more resources to infrastructure development.
Seccession by regions will gaurantee innovation. Technology and science will develop rapidly with newly born nations out of Nigeria. They'll be able to channel more funds to science and evolvel policies that will incoperate technological innovations in day to day life. Look at Nigeria, does it support technological innovation? A country practising quota system will never develop. Beside the fact that Nigeria still has no functional steel mills after 60 years of independence is enough to dismiss Nigeria as a technological country.
Seccession will gaurantee security of citizens. Newly born nations will be able to take charge of their security and model their security structure in line with modern trends. Is it not better to seccede and form an independent country free of terrorist murderers where the new countries can channel scarce resources and develop steadily, than living under the illusion of One Nigeria where thousands of people are massacred daily and the murderers allowed to go scot free? In now born countries, murderers caught slaughtering people in their farms will be made to face the law.
We are just decieving ourselves that we're one when we're NOT.
One Nigeria is nothing a crime against humany. The bloodshed and genocide committed against innocent people in this country under the banner of one Nigeria is unimaginable!
One Nigeria is a fulani project. It has nothing to do with peace, security and development of all regions. One Nigeria is rubbish.

Dear clown, after your ancestors carried out their coup , people sat down to have them include secession clause in the constitution but Mr aguyi ironsi, your personal person refused it all because him and his brothers controlled the country and the economy

Today you the descendants are the clowns agitating for secession

Karma is one nasty biiaaaach

Oh and most countries in the world would not allow secession because it usually leads to disputes and war

Secession is not a bad thing. Countries sit down to discuss the reason for their existence every now and then.

I heard somewhere that secession clause was in Nigeria law before. Obviously Nigeria was a huge mistake. Presently, over 60% of northern NIgeria is under Sharia law. You don't join people who want to toll religious and theocratic lines with people who want socialism and democracy.

Secession cannot and will never be off the table until the NIgeria state is property defined. There many questions that are swept under the carpet. The longer they remain under the carpet the more strainous Nigeria's situation becomes.

The question is who loses more If Nigeria seperates? Obviously the north. For the very reason that the north would be a landlock country will be one of their major problems.

North can't just let go of Southern Nigeria because of their abundant resources. southern Nigeria are the most liberal multi regions in the history of Africa, if not in the world with the way our resources is taken in political disguise to develop North that little or nothing to Nigeria GDP but rather retrogress Nigeria development through introduction of war Bokoharam, Bandit, Fulani herdsmen, who knows what's next?

even if we don't have the liver to disengage our unfruitful togetherness, if North still think they can hold southern Nigeria on Ransome, some of our kids or young generation might take up the course. if Kaduna Nzeogwu enjoy the backing of other Southern military leaders North would have long being forgotten

North needs to know no one have monopoly of foolishness. dragging and destroying another person's farm is height of foolishness. killing them on their soil, is cruel and global stupidity

their kinsmen here better warned those herdsmen because southern Nigeria had been push to the wall. we southern Nigeria might not be united but we kick against killing of human being unjustly, all human lives matter

halt your useless and unnecessary killing in Edo, delta, akwa ibom, cross river, Bayelsa, River state, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, IMO, Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, osun, ekiti, Oyo and we will continue being our brother's keeper

desist from pushing southerners to the wall because the outcome might be brutal
