How To Cut Cost And Save More In 2020 by Kazrem(m): 1:49pm On Feb 01, 2020
In the school that my kids attend, including the twins, there is one woman who, if I am right should be in her early forties, is the school cleaner. She is so dutiful that you will never get to school and find the floor messy. I don’t have an idea of how she does it.

When my wife had a fracture in 2018 December and we had to relieve her of the kids, the twins especially, she, the cleaner, took the responsibility of the twins after school till around 5:00 pm when we will go collect them. She proved she is doubly neat at home as she is at school.

Recently my wife told me how this woman had helped her in stopping using a diaper for the twins. She narrated that she doesn’t use it for them in her house and the twins will not wee nor poo on their body. They would make a gesture that will tell anyone around them to know they wanted to wee or poo.

Since when she had helped her, my wife has not bought a single diaper for the twins.

This article is not about the woman but about the cost that she had helped my wife to cut. If she spent, say N5,000 on diaper every month before, she now has N5,000 extra that she can either save or spend.

So, few days ago, while we were talking I gave her a hint that you too can use. I told her that she should assume she’s still buying the diaper every month, after all, she didn’t plan to stop using it soonest if not the God-sent woman. I told her that she should save part of it and give the woman part of it as an addition to what we give her. That way, she would have some extra money to fall back to in case of emergency and also the woman will appreciate her and even do more to care for the twins.

Now, to you, a teacher, what cost can you reduce in your budget?

What can you remove completely?

There is always a cost in our budget that if we don’t do it, we will not die. It may even be the internet. It may be that snack. It may be visiting a friend. It may even be taking a walk to the school instead of taking a bike. It may be fueling the generating set twice instead of four times a week (as I am doing in my house now since they have stolen our transformer cable over two weeks now). It may also be buying sachet water instead of table water or even going to work with your water from home instead of buying water. It may be drinking water instead of buying soda. The list is endless. If you look at it well, you will always see.

You can even alternate some costs. Do it today and skip the next. Do it this week and skip the next. Do it this month and skip it next month.

That money, save it somewhere. Do it for a week, a month, three months, six months and one year. At the end of the day, you will not only be proud of yourself but also see that your life doesn’t depend on that thing.

Be wise with your spending. It is salary week.
