Just thought I should share this here to see if there's anyone who's got a positive outcome from Nerc Forum judgement...

I own an uncompleted building, also in it is a room and a kitchen already roofed or partially completed and it's occupied by my aunt,inside this room there's a tv,a fan,gotv and a fridge she hadly puts on,now what ikedc does is to bill me between 5k to 10k monthly,same amount as other buildings occupying 5 or more different tenants,so on September last year I visited their undertaking in my area and made a written complaint which was acknowledged by the marketing manager then,while i was there he instructed the marketer to carry out a load inventory on the premises and add my account for special billing while I subscribe for a prepaid meter and also said I should pay 10k on the bill for it to be added to special billing which I accepted,but unfortunately I was unable to make the payment that very day as I was travelling out of Lagos,the following month they came and my aunt tried making a 2k payment as I believe she didn't consume more than that but they disconnected my light,when it was put to my notice..I had to tell her to hold on till I get back that's it's probably because i am yet to make the 10k payment,so when I got back to Lagos I went to their office to make the payment and know what's up,I met with the marketer and she claimed she had already registered my account for special billing but it's yet to be confirmed that i should go ahead and pay the 10k and also give their guys 1k for reconnection which I did,was also told to go ahead and register for prepaid meter which I also did and was invited for debt resolution as I didn't agree that I owe all the debts,the following month after I was assured they will work on it they brought another bill for the previous month which she didn't consumed as the wire was already disconnected and I discovered that nothing had been done,she also made 2k5 payment but they came back few days later to disconnect her saying the payment was too small,I got fed up so decided to wait for the debt resolution day as I believe getting a prepaid meter would be the solution,the day came and I was attended to by one of their staffs who then checked is laptop and told me I am being billed normal that the only help he can render was to find a consumer in my area that they are billing between 5k and 6k and use that in billing me monthly which I rejected,while we were arguing the marketer kept laughing and told the guy that I was threatening to make a report at alausa and the guy replied by saying if i like i should go to Abuja and report to the President that nothing can happen...I also tried to have him talk about the debt resolution but he kept saying they were out of time to discuss that as they were suppose to close the meeting 2pm and it was already pass 4pm so they were just collecting our information and telling us we will be contacted...as solution wasn't coming I decided to write to their head office in Ikeja last month and was told they would get back to me in 15 working days which they never did,the 15 days elapsed yesterday and I decided to visit their office again today before going to Nerc Forum and to my surprise the customer service representative said the guys from the debt resolution had written that I accepted that i owe the debt which I never did...Funny and mischievous people.

On leaving home,I had already made 3 copy of the letter that was initially written to them and acknowledged by stamp and another 3 copy of a letter addressed to the Nerc Forum Chairman,so when I got there and submitted,a case file was opened and I was given a copy...Now the annoying part there is that after I was give given a copy i asked the lady that attended to me when i should be expecting to hear from them and she said between 2-3 month that they do receive a lot of complaints and that they are still attending to those of October....my body just dey weak straight as she tell me,why should there always have to be a delay in getting justice in this part of the world.

My worries now is getting a fovourable judgement on the debt as I intend getting a prepaid meter..please anyone who has gone through this process should let me know if I should be hopeful or better still just accept that I owe the debts.

Note: Debts accumulated is now 190k plus and I have also written to their office to stop billing me as I don't intend to use their light again till everything is solved.

The last 2 bills was 9600 plus each and what they do now is to come 3-4 times a week and making it compulsory for everyone to make the full payment on the bill or else they disconnect you.

Prepaid meter is not your solution as whatever debt you owe will be spread monthly on your prepaid meter.

You can write to them to disconnect you while you sort out the issue meaning they will disconnect you and you won't be billed going forward.

While your case is going on in NERC, go to the Business Unit office and ask to speak with the Commercial Manager. Ask for a concession on your bill. IKEDC usually has some promos they do. Stuff like pay 80% of your bill and they write off the rest, pay a percentage before a deadline and get a prepaid meter.

NERC help but they are overwhelmed by the numbers so it takes a while.

Hmmm they brought Feb bill on 17th for us, they no longer wait till month end to bring their fraudulent bills.

Thanks..we are already disconnected and i have written to them to stop the bill,also since the case is with Nerc and its mainly on the debt issue then I think meeting with the marketing manager for any form of concession will be giving them an upper hand.

Actually, it won't. You might be able to resolve it faster than when NERC can. If you are not able to come to an agreement, you simply back off and tell them you have reported to NERC and they will hear from them soon.

Whatever discussion you have with them will not impact on NERC proceeding.
