CassavahubNg presents to you cassava outlook for year 2020. This will be a annual report on what to expect for the year. This is one of our service to the cassava sub-sector of the Agribusiness industry.

Based on last year planting figures compared to 2016, 2017 and 2018 figures. We saw drastic drop in cassava cultivated last year, which means this year will be year of scarcity as the number of cassava farmer shrink as people start converting their efforts to plant Rice due to the policy of closure of the border and ban on foreign rice in Nigeria.

Rice prices started rising after the closure of the border and people decided to invest heavily in rice production and processing. They hope to take advantage of the high prices recorded so far.

Also, we noticed that a lot is going on in the processing end of the subsector as numbers of processors are increasing as a result of backward integration of the major industrial multinationals such as Nestlé, Unilever, Guinness, Nigeria breweries, Honeywell flours and other flour miller's which have different by-product of cassava as their feedstock.

There is also a lot going on in the aspect of financing such as loans and grants. More capital to the sector can help develop a high level supply chain which is what cassava subsector really needs. The new investment in the value chain will result to increased productivity and efficiency and also help take away a lot of farmers from the poverty line. I see this boosting the contribution of Agricultural sector to the National GDP.

We hope to see new investments in logistics fully dedicated to cassava industry, specialized transport that will take into cognizant the fact that cassava is a high volume, low weight commodity that needs specialize transport system that will be able to carry more cassava tubers to end users.
