Lagos state is the richest state in Nigeria because of the many companies there. The state contributes the most VAT revenue to the federal government yet has only 20 Local Government Areas. Rivers state is the hub of oil and gas and so contributes the most in terms of oil revenue to the federal government yet the state has only 23 Local Government Areas. Lagos and Rivers states have a combine 43 LGAs whereas only Kano state has 44 local government areas, which is tantamount to 44 monthly allocation accrued to it from the Federal Government.

Now notice that Kano has no boundary with any country, meaning that, it does not generate custom duty.

Kano leaders because of religion detest alcohol, meaning, no Value Added Tax on alcohol from Kano state.

Kano has no oil deposits or mining company, so there is no oil or mining tax revenue generated for the Federal Government from Kano state.

Kano has no known agricultural production company despite all its farming population.

Yet, Kano is able to carry out massive projects more than Kogi, a state harbouring Dangote cement, Ejiba Niger River basin, part of Rivers Niger/Benue and the internationally recognized Itakpe iron ore and Ajaokuta steel complex. Go to Lokoja, the capital of Kogi and you'd be ashamed because of how squalid the capital looks when compared to Kano.

In terms of projects, Kano state is obviously doing better than the so called oil producing states.

Kano is not generating virtually nothing in terms of naira and kobo to Abuja, but it is spending more than those who contributed the most to the Federal Government's revenue. Can you imagine?

The question now is, why would Kano state and her leadership support "restructuring or true federalism" when it serves it better to lazily receive a free monthly allocation without sweating?

Why would any governor from the North truly support "restructuring or true federalism" when there is easy monthly money from Abuja?

Why would the North let go of the presidency, when with it they can frustrate the aspirations of others just so they continue to stay afloat?

As i see it, no politician from the North in a position of authority will truly support "restructuring or true federalism." Forget the Governor El-Rufai's committee report on restructuring. As evidently we have seen that nothing can ever come out of it.

If the South wants restructuring, the best thing to do is to pursue serious constitutional amendments with the various inputs and deductions. But then with the North having more members in the National Assemblies and with that part of the country having more states and so more combined members of the various Houses of Assemblies, any constitutional amendment that is perceived to be attempting to change the status quo will be rejected.

You dont get it. The President does not have any powers to restructure Nigeria

Nigeria can only be restructured at the national assembly and and guess who has the majority vote there?
