Okay guys, so I went to my local government last week Thursday to see my mother who happen to be a local government health worker in IMO state. During our conversation I found out that the local health workers around the area have not been trained on how to handle cases of corona virus. I was totally shocked on learning this. I found out that the majority of the local health workers like her especially those in the rural areas has no idea of what this virus outbreak is all about. How can health workers handle cases of what they don't have an idea about?

I don't know why our government has refused to be proactive. Must we wait to record a case of covid-19 before preparations could be put in place to contain the spread? Even if states do not have testing kits for whatever reasons, at least it is expected that state and local government health workers of each state should be trained and enlightened enough about the virus so that they can report any suspected case to the Nigerian center for disease control.

Government must not assume that every one is aware of the present spread of corona virus. Not everyone is on social media and we have people in rural areas that is not equipped with adequate information.

I am using this opportunity to call on the attention of IMO state governor in the person of his Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma to order the immediate training and sensitization of imo state health workers in preparation to handle any case of covid-19 in the eventuality of any outbreak or occurance in IMO state.

I will also like the government to enforce a ban on all religious and social gathering just like the Lagos state government.
We must not wait for covid-19 to be confirmed in IMO state before taking precaution.

So I had a conversation with someone yesterday on why he went to church despite news on corona virus. He replied that the virus is a sickness of the Egyptians and as a children of God the sickness of the Egyptians shall never come near them so, it is not a reason to stop going to church. It is necessary that the government save people from themselves by placing a ban on all religious and social gatherings

All health workers in general should be trained in addition to providing adequate protective wears. Not just in Imo state.

And when it comes to the Local government health workers, this is one of the reasons I strongly support autonomy of the Local government. For instance, in this situation, a Local government will not need State's assistance to conduct training of health workers in her primary health centres.

This is an eye opener, it exposes the fact that apart from states that are affected like Lagos, other States of the federation are ill prepared to handle corona virus cases. Should this virus find her way to IMO state before it will be detected, thousands must already have been infected

I learnt last week that the Imo state governor has set up committee for COVID-19 which is headed by Prof. Iwu. If you are not aware of that and you're in Imo state, I wonder! Or was it fake news?

Setting up a committee in Nigeria and doing the necessary things are totally different.

Hope you remember how the FG serially boasted about their readiness on combating the virus far before it entered Nigeria?
