Do Muslims Pray “in The Name Of Muhammad”? by tallfish145(m): 9:02am On Mar 24, 2020
Short Answer: No, absolutely not. Muslims do not worship Muhammad like some Christians worship Jesus. He was only a man, a very good man, but a man, nonetheless. We only ever pray to God, using God’s name(s), as we do not believe that people need an intercessor between us and God.

Due to the fact that most, if not all, Christians pray in the name of Jesus, coming from the Christian perspective, it is a logical parallel to make.

The assumption is that Muhammad is to Muslims as Jesus is to Christians, so why wouldn’t Muslims pray in Muhammad’s name?

Is Prophet Muhammad the Muslim equivalent of Jesus?

In short: no.

Within the views of most of Christianity, Jesus is seen as something of an incarnation of God.

Christians believe Jesus to be the son of God, yet also God Himself. He is divine.

This is not how Muslims view either Muhammad (pbuh) nor Jesus.

To us, Jesus and Muhammad (pbuh) are both exceptionally important to the religion.

They are viewed as being messengers of God, prophets chosen to spread His message.

There is no way to understate just how vital these men (and many other Prophets mentioned in the Bible) are to Islam.

However, they are just that: men. The best of men, yes, but mortal men, nonetheless.

They are just as human as the rest of us.

Who do Muslims pray to?

The most important tenet of Islam is: la ilaha illa Allah wa Muhammadun rasool-Allah. This means “There is no god but God, and Muhammad is his messenger.”

There are two separate points of importance in this statement.

First and foremost: la ilaha illa Allah There is no god but Allah.

(As a side note, “Allah” is simply the Arabic translation of big-G God in English. Arab Christians use the word “Allah,” too!)

One cannot be Muslim without holding this belief.

Monotheism is the absolute central tenet of Islam. The only divine being that exists is Allah; the One God.

Allah has no partners, He has no sons. The Christian trinity – although it is understood that Christians believe in only one God – is not compatible with Islamic beliefs.

The second important point is: Muhammadun rasool-Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.

He is the final messenger of Allah. Prophets and messengers are of vital importance in Islam, but they are not divine.

They are not god-like. Muslims pray to God and to God only.

What about praying “in the name of…”?

The Islamic belief on intercession is very complex.

There are certain contexts in which we believe in intercession – for example, we believe that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) will intercede on behalf of believers on the Day of Judgment.

But we do not believe in intercession in prayer.

When Muslims pray, it is very simply between the person praying and Allah. We don’t pray in any of the Prophets’ names.

We don’t pray for saints or deceased loved ones to pray for us.

It would be very wrong to compare prophet Mohamed ( pbuh) with Jesus Christ the son of the living God. They didn't come to this world same way. Jesus was born of a virgin with the pregnancy from the holy spirit as also confirmed by the holy Quran. Quran called Jesus Christ the spirit of God while the bible called Him the son of God. Prophet Muhamed( pbuh) on the other hand, was born via intercourse. When jlJesus was crucified he died and rose the 3rd day and ascended to heaven. Prophet Mohamed died and was buried.

Qur'an confirmed the accession of Jesus Christ to heaven and also believes in His coming back same way He left and would come back to judge the world. It still amazes me why Islamic scholars do not harp on this but busy deceiving some followers who want to be deceived. A good muslim should have a copy of the holy bible likewise a good Christian so that nobody would live in deceit.

Christians and the bible call Jesus Christ the son of God and Muslims and Quran call Him the spirit of God. The Quran that says Jssus is the spirit of God is right, likewise the Bible which calls Him the son of God. God doesn't have a biological child ( born via intercourse) truly but Jesus is His son sent from heaven to intercede and change people from their sinful ways through mary. God also confirmed it by saying Jasus is His beloved son, in whom He's well pleased. Jesus is a spirit and son of God. God put His spirit inside virgin mary( mariamoh as called by muslims) and it became a human being (Jesus Christ). The bible says in Jesus name every knew must bow. Praying in His name by Christian is backed by the bible and Jesus himself. He said I'm the way, the truth and the light.

OP and the poster below him did a wonderful job to explain this clearly but in my own opinion, I now believe they are saying the same thing.

I dont know if christians believe in Muhammed existence but both believe in Jesus existence and his supremacy...
OP as you said that the prayers start with

la ilaha illa Allah
There is no god but Allah

Then why adding the last part and mentioning Prophet Muhammed?

Muhammadun rasool-Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah

That's the same reason why Christians add Christ to their prayers too...

The name 'JESUS' is the only KEY that opened a wonderful door of blessings the world has never experienced before!

God confused MANKIND by multiplying our language. Ever since then humans finds it really difficult to work together as a united family. The language barrier always cause confusion, and instead of trying to unite we often think of more divisions!

False religions began thriving in our society. People claim they're worshiping God and the most preposterous of it all is they claim is the same God!

So God now promised that a time is coming when he will unite people from all races under the heavens as one big and happy family of peace loving worshipers, and from extremity of the earth to the other, people will come under one umbrella to call upon his name!

While i was a child my Islamic teacher read this aloud to all of us from the Bible! Isaiah 2:2-4 compared to Zephaniah 3:9

But one thing that's baffling is that despite our worshiping in the Arabic language as one family, there is NO PEACE amongst us and what is the import of worshiping in the same language when we're not at peace with our fellow worshipers?
What is the use of one language when there is no understanding?

So i was worried, what could be the problem?

Until i met the true CHRISTIANS (Jehovah's Witnesses) they told me that there can never be PEACE amongst people if they're not using Jesus' name which is the one and only KEY to that wonderful blessing, they must adhere STRICTLY to Jesus' teachings before there can be
LOVE, JOY and PEACE in their midst!

Today i'm one of Jehovah's Witnesses and i'm grateful to my Islamic teacher for teaching me that God's people will be known for SPEAKING THE SAME LANGUAGE! The only thing that pained me most is that he's late now, i could have ran to tell him that i've found the true worshipers of God, they fully understand themselves so well that
POLITICS
RACISM or
SOCIAL STATUS has no power over their unity because THEY'RE TRUTHFULLY SPEAKING THE SAME LANGUAGE, and the KEY to this blessings is JESUS name!

God bless you!
