First let me say that, I have looked carefully at the Christian religion and come to the conclusion that if what is written in the bible is true, none of us Nigerians can go to heaven.

Why? Because we are Nigerians, no matter whether you are a born again, or any other christian denomination, we are ALL bigoted, cruel, insensitive savages.

Before you scream, not me - take a minute to reflect on what I am saying. The so called believers, reserve their "saintly" characters for other believers. To anyone else they are equally as savage as the worst unbeliever.

People talk about the "Nigerian factor", that unique characteristic which ensures that nothing works in our country, if you are honest with yourselves, you will see that no religious affiliation strips us of this.

Why is this the state of affairs? Because the basic ethics of Christianity are alien to our nature as Nigerians. We, by our nature are Hostile Brutish people. The worst of us are the born again Christians. Why do I single them out? Because they they are the greatest pretenders. Underneath the false facade of ALL born again Nigerians is the true Nigerian character barely concealed. I have spent a great deal of time with and around so called born again people and have never been disappointed given enough time, out pops the true person. Sometimes you don't even have to wait.

I am doing a small transaction with a guy who works for a large organization, he has all the born again props - his ring tone is a quote from the bible, his office has the usual "christian quotes and pledges". We chatted about his faith for a while then got down to how he was trying to cheat me. His response? He is only doing his job "in the manner his employers like it".
As I have refused to be cheated, he is not happy with me, or to put it in his words, "don't I understand". Yes I do, both himself and his employers are morally bankrupt.

I once worked in a company, spread throughout the head office and branches of this company we had 13 born again pastors. The Redeemed church had the largest number. In my life I have never met people who were more conceited and who had as much milk of human kindness as a desert stone.
These were some of the most heartless people I have ever met.

The question I have is this - WHY BOTHER? Is the need to pretend so great? Do we think we are deceiving GOD? why not just accept what we are? God made Lions and Tigers, he doesn't expect them to become doves.

People what do you think, can you be honest? Let us stop deceiving ourselves.

Is it for u to say? Are u God? Was it u dat died for d human race? U better work on urself and stop all dis cos it wont help u. We will all give account of our lives individually. Let d rest of nigeria account for themselves while u account for ur own self. U didnt create anybody so its not u who decides.

The fact that some may misbehave should not make you generalize and connect whatever transaction that goes wrong as a Christian style. I have also discovered that sometimes the people that blame every other person are really the problem in most cases but they never see it. Yours may not be so but don't generalize because of your personal experience with few people. If a real christian offend you, simply report it to his pastor, hos pastor will mandate him to act right or even discipline him. Don't attack the body of christ.

Yes, being a Nigerian I am involved. We need to salvage our country and this fake, hypocritical behavior is part of our problem. It stops us from seeing ourselves clearly. Maybe we as Nigerians were never meant to be Christians.

Do you need anyone to tell you that:

1. There is a large and growing number number of so called Christians in this country?
2. That despite the number of Christains, nothing has changed?

The point I am trying to make is that Christians in Nigeria are fake. They are Nigerians and they can't fight against their nature. To be nice, really care about people you meet (who you don't know) and most other Christ like things goes against our nature.

So why are we pretending? Why not be ourselves?

I agree with you that our mentality has to change as a nation. The word of God is the change agent. Everyone may not be perfect . But changes are taking place. Do we still kill twins?

You unfortunately met few bad experience.  I was driving home one night 11pm, and I saw a woman with 3kids by the road side. The road was dark and empty ,i felt led to give them a ride but they seemed to be going the opposite direction. So I drove home and concluded they would sort themelves out. probably a bus would come by or something. But I couldn't sleep, "they must have gone by now" I said to myself. But I later I picked my keys just to satisfy my conscience that "I tried". But When I got there ,They were still there!. She said Her husband  a policeman had run away with another woman, house rent expired, the batcher she constructed to stay and fry akara or so was demolished by one commissioners wife that evening . She was looking for a relative to pass the night with. I gave them a ride. Invited them to church ,she got born again ,got them a house and Put Her children back in school. Few months later she stop coming to church, I forgot about her actually. Until the eldest girl came running one day,and said the mother was seriously sick. We rushed her to hospital , and prayed also for her. She died. The chidren are staying with me now and having the best of education. The eldest boy if 12 years has started preaching the gospel to adults! His teacher came to see me recently to thank me ,that the change in the boys life is so dramatic. He has stop fighting in school .he disturbs everybody with preaching now. These are just little out of the many things God is using his children to do.

There are thousands doing thesame thing. Christianity in nigeria is as effective as in the bible days. And God is raising many mighty people to touch lives of others. Don't condemn the church because of the activities of few. There are many more like me . Who even do much more and when I hear their testimonies, I get more inspired .

when a man gets born again his mind and body remains the same, but the spirit is changed.sometime he is prone to do those things he does before he got bornagain.and on few ocassion maybe still do them.but the more he stays on God and keep his faith gradually he changies.in some occassion The change is instant.
Being a Nigerian is only in the flesh realm.being born again is in the spirit.there are no born again Nigerian when you are bornagain your nationality doesn't count because it's spiritaul.so I agree with you when you said no Nigerian will go to heaven because no bornagain christain is a Nigerian or an europian.
Concerning your complain about them let God be the judge.

I have met and interacted with a very large number of born again Christians. I have been there with the owners/pastors of at 3 very large churches when they started. I have financed 4 Christian gospel singers albums (on a profit sharing basis).

I myself don't believe so I am honest about my being a Nigerain. All of you Christians are fake!!!

It is true that a LARGE PERCENTAGE of CHRISTIANS DO NOT KNOW CHRIST OR BEHAVE CHRIST-LIKE! It is a shameful to mention some of the things those who profess Christ do but we know there is no justification for what they do in Christ's life/teachings! However, Johndoe, you will agree with me that there are still TRUE XTIANS, NIGERIAN BY NATIONALITY OR NOT!

Thanks for explaining to mabel.

@ mabell,

I was pointing out that some xtians do things that cannot be found in the life and teachings of Christ. e.g A pastor who takes 'advantage' of a female church member cannot find any justification for his action in the life/teachings of Christ.

Thanks for the clarification. But that's not enough reason for someone to say no Nigerian christian. The fact that some christian do certain wrong should not be a reason to label all with a blanket. The church is a place where people are perfected .

Your experiences may be true but your conclusions are not scientific enough. Why? Nigerian population is over 140million and you had close personal contacts with less than 100 probably in the same geographic area. Statistically your sample size is not significant enough for you to generalize ur conclusion for the whole population.
As for the so called 'Nigerian factor', it is rather a human factor but made more prominent in Nigeria because we do not have a 'working' legal system. The whites even in first world, in fact every human being given the prevailing condition in Nigeria will probably behave worse than an average church-goer in Nigeria.
Religion have helped Nigeria to even remain a bit better, otherwise you would have witnessed more depravity of the fallen man if there was no religion in Nigeria with an incompetent legal/civil rule.
As for going to heaven: no human being will go to heaven because of his/her works. Salvation is a free gift paid for by God through the sacrifice of Jesus the Messiah.
Acceptance of this gift by faith will only make available to you grace to live in obedience to God's laws. You will not automatically be stripped of your human nature or natural tendency. You will still retain the capacity to lie, kill, steal, fornicate, and do other vices if you submit your will to do any of these.
That is why Jesus said to those who believe on him 'if you CONTINUE in my word, then are you my disciples indeed, ' You still have the power of your will to decide who you obey- the devil or God. However you will have the grace of God available to you to live above sins if you so desire.
About making heaven as a Nigerian: honestly speaking, the system in nigeria will make a lot of 'born agains' miss heaven who would have not miss it if they were living in places where there is rule of law and responsible leadership (both civil and religious leadership).
Why? Most business transactions in Nigeria including contract, employment, even admission to schools involve sinful practices like bribery, nepotism, dishonesty, lying etc otherwise a truthful person may not be able to get any means of livelihood. Unfortunately it's getting worse and now it is the survival of the 'fittest'
I can go on and on. But many 'born again' residents of Nigeria can still make it to God's kingdom if they are ready to suffer, rely on God, remove their eyes from the ambition to be vey rich thru short cuts and be honest enough, and if they don't act as if God is stupid etc

Hmm. Dont deceive yourself, OP O. There are millions of fantastically kind and good natured Nigerians. Born Agains inclusive. So many of them, I tell you.

I dont have the energy to go into details now, but i will never forget about 15 years ago i was stranded in Abuja. It was a perfect stranger called Benjamin - who was poor as a rat who gave me a home to sleep in and transport money the next day back to lagos.

I made a commitment to name my first son Benjamin, after him.

It was another perfect stranger in the bus back to Lagos that took care of me and after I had nothing else, personally delivered me to my home in Lagos.

I took my family the next day to go and thank him, only to be told he passed away that night.

I accept most of what you say, but look at the first line I highlighted. If this is the case does it not point to the fact that maybe heaven is not for Nigerians? That day to day life in this country shows so called Christains that they are trying to live a lie?

To the second highlighted line, how many Nigerians are ready to suffer?

Thanks deep sight for that testimony . I got inspired when I hear things like this. I remember a story a brother of mine shared about how he met the the best Nigerian and the worst Nigerian in one night. He was in Lagos V.I. on a public bus, but due to traffic hold up, the bus had to take a short cut to pass through a sandy area , near the beach or so. The bus sank in the sand. And they were stranded because nobody cared to stop. He said suddenly , a young handsome man came down from a very fine jeep, opened his trunk and brought out a towing rope, the towing rope which had hook on it. so he hooked it on their bus and towed the bus with all the passengers till they got to a good road ,he then turned back to his own direction.

The worst Nigerian ironically that night was a policeman who arrested the driver and beat him up for not giving him whatever and he discharged all the passengers and left them stranded again grin

I got so inspired that I had to look for towing rope with hook to buy. And I have been towing sinking cars since! And receiving prayers from old and young who would have been stranded from car breakdown or sinking in mud and sand . That young handsome Nigeria inspired me.

I Know definitely many people that are Christians and are wonderful people. I remember my secondary school days in Jss3 when we were given a compulsory break 2nd term to go and resume early for extension towards preparations of 'JUNIOR WAEC' before school vacated to cut cost. As @ that time my Dad had not sent my T.P so i got money from my GUARDIAN enroute to LAGOS from J-TOWN. I NEVER left cos my money was not enough so i was stranded at the park.
A guy that my guardian asked to take care of me till i leave took me to his parent's house and i TRUSTED him with my T.P due to his acts of kindness . D boy left me and never returned again BUT his father went all the way to GET me into another bus d next day on trust that i will pay when i get to LAGOS. HE ONLY HAD N50 WITH HIM and he gladly gave me. I CRIED at intervals on the ATTACHMENT I SAT to LAGOS. In the bus a lady saw me and took care of me until i got home, she was staying in FESTAC then and i never saw her again to tell her THANK U after that day but I WILL NEVER FORGET THAT MAN AND THAT GIRL WHO WAS A STUDENT THEN IN UNIJOS THAT HELPED ME . WE STILL HAVE GREAT PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY.

OP
I can feel your frustrations. But definately, some will make it. Remember what happened during the time of Noah. There are Noahs in Naija that will make it with their family. Remember Sodom and Gommorah. There are Abrahams and Lots that wll make it. Just try to be a Noah, or an Abraham or Lot and you will make it. God knows his own. Selah. grin grin

I once worked in a company, spread throughout the head office and branches of this company we had 13 born again pastors. The Redeemed church had the largest number. In my life I have never met people who were more conceited and who had as much milk of human kindness as a desert stone.
These were some of the most heartless people I have ever met.

harsh words even if true.

but come oh, you yourself arent an angel nah, or werent you the one opening weird threads in another section. Correct me if i'm wrong.

To the lord, a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like a day.

but we havent heard the other side of the story although i'm not saying you're not giving us the full picture.

@poster. . . I get you. Don't be swayed by all these holier than thou posters telling "success stories" of how they saved the chicken from crossing the road. They are all the same thing : RAVAGING BEASTS whose only biz with church borders on promise of blessing and miracles. How many of them can face torture, imprisonment or painful death like the apostles? They will its not their portion. Bloody hypocrites who are no different frm juju worshippers. They cant even show concrete proof that what they worship really exists. All they know is their greed for divine blessings and interventions. BEASTS!

As I have never professed to be "Christ like", why should I be an angel? It is those who claim this that are supposed to hold themselves to a higher standard, no?

No, you are just insinuating it.
