Yesterday, Saturday 29th March, the Benue State Government confirmed the first case of Coronavirus in the State.



As a result of the outbreak of the virus in the state, the governor banned church activities in the state including stations of the cross, weddings, holy communion and all forms of social gatherings. Markets and shops will also be shut down as of Monday.

A visit to some churches in Makurdi by our Editor-in-chief, Akpene Jacob showed that some of the churches in the state capital are endangering the lives of their members and others by holding Sunday services.



The churches that are currently holding services include; Saint Paul Kertyo Makurdi, Christ Embassy Makurdi the church is located beside Government Model College, Saint Dominic Catholic Mission Agwakuma located at George Akume way.

Another visit to Shelter of Glory Church located along Old Otukpo road showed that the church adhered to the instructions of the government by not holding any church service today.

House on the Rock Church located along Jonah Jang Crescent Makurdi did not conduct any service today as the church adhered to the government’s directives.

The security operatives are hereby urged to go into action immediately and arrest and stop these people before it gets out of hand.
