COVID19: Delta receives medical items from NCDC

As part of intensified efforts to strengthen preparedness and readiness in the management of COVID19 outbreak, Delta State government has taken delivery of items from the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) to help curb the disease.

A statement on Tuesday signed by the Public Relations Officer in the ministry, Mr Donald Ojebo said the Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mordi Ononye on behalf of the State government received the items from the NCDC today in Asaba at the premises of the State Contributory Health Commission.

The Commissioner thanked the Management of NCDC for the support and pledged the State's continuous collaboration with the Agency to curb the spread of the disease.

He assured of the State's readiness to put into judicious use the received items with a view to protecting residents from the disease.

Dr. John Oladejo, Director, Health Emergency Preparedness and Response, Nigeria Center for Disease Control in a letter to the Ministry stated that since the start of the out break in the country, the Center has continued to intensify efforts to reduce the risk of spread.

He said with the activation of the National COVID19 Emergency Operation Centre on the 28th of February, 2020, they have been meeting on a daily basis to coordinate response activities in line with the COVID-19 Incident Action Plan

Dr. Oladejo reminded the State that the NCDC strategic stockpile is to support States in outbreak situation.

As a result of this, he advised the state government to forecast, budget and procure items based on needs for response to the outbreak and other infectious diseases.

He added that his Agency will continue to monitor appropriate storage and general accountability of the materials supplied to them and keep proper records of usage of the supplies.

Items supplied include coveralls, masks, gloves, google protection, boots, hand sanitizers, body bags, face shields, disposal bags for bio-harzardous waste amongst others.
