His brief history....

Kingibe was born on the 25th of June, 1945 to the family of Mustafa Shuwa and Ya Kingi Mallam. He was named after his father’s best friend Mallam Abubakar, he was orphaned in his quite early life at the age of 15.He grew up in city of Maiduguri and attended primary schools in the city.

In 1958, he was admitted into the Borno Provincial Secondary School, however, in 1960, he traveled to London to complete his O'Level and A-level at Bishop's Stortford College under a Borno Native Authority sponsored scholarship scheme. He took up further studies earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in international relations at the University of Sussex where he was mates with Thabo Mbeki (President of South Africa); he started pursuing a doctorate programme in Switzerland but he left the program before completing his degree.

He returned to Nigeria and started work as a Research and Planning Officer at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria but he soon left the college to become the head of Features and Current Affairs at the Broadcasting Corporation of Northern Nigeria.

In 1972, he joined the Nigerian Foreign Service where he started work as a senior counselor and later became the head of the political desk at the Nigerian High Commission in London.

During the Obasanjo administration in the late 1970s, Kingibe worked in the political department as principal secretary and was involved in the government's return to civil rule programme, states creation and boundary adjustment, local government reforms and the constitutional drafting committee. In 1981, he was appointed the Nigerian ambassador to Greece and later the country's representative in Pakistan.

Kingibe entered Nigerian political scene during the beginning of the Third Nigerian Republic. In 1988, he was made director of organization of the People's Front of Nigeria (PFN) which was then led by Shehu Musa Yar'Adua.

The PFN later joined Social Democratic Party in 1989. During the conduct of elections for national executive positions in the party, Kingibe was sponsored by the People's Front faction of SDP as the party's chairman, a position he went on to clinch. As chairman, Kingibe was involved in the organization of party's gubernatorial and presidential primaries in 1991 and 1992 respectively. However, Kingibe put himself forward as a presidential candidate.

He made a split from his initial camp, the PFN group and used his relationships with SDP state party chairman to build his campaign. He lost the keenly contested primary conducted in Jos very narrowly ,but after much prodding from SDP governors, and when MKO Abiola saw that he can never win without Kingibe he was selected , MKO Abiola as a running mate to MKO Abiola or Vice-presidential.

In fact 90% of the MKO Abiola votes in the North were 4 Kingibe even though he was just a running mate.
In June 2007, he was appointed Secretary to the Federal Government of Nigeria. He was unceremoniously removed from office on September 8, 2008 by the President, Umaru Yar'Adua after he forecasted the rough terrain that the country might enter into if YarAdua is to die in Power and which happened and which also consequently brought Jonathan who allowed social unrest and massive corruption to happen under his administration that nearly killed Nigeria.

In fact Kingibe was looking for a way out for the North on how the Power stays in the North for 8 years just like how Obasanjo did 8 years from the South, but some influential personalities saw that as a window 4 Kingibe himself becoming the president since he was a very Powerful Secretary to the federal government that Nigeria ever had.
Kingibe in 2004 also after carefully studying the security challenges/threats about to face Borno in 2004 issued a warning in an open televised address to the people of Borno, so that they can make some adjustments and corrections where necessary regarding the growing security challenges threatening the state but only visible to his eyes. Unfortunately some people (group) who called themselves the elders of Borno state immediately came out to Air and kicked against his advises and even called him names and said that he was living outside Borno state 4 decades therefore he hardly understands anything about Borno as at that time not to talk of the security threats he forecaster-ed or saw.

However later many of us cried and some of us are still crying and if not of the coming of His Excellency President Muhammad Buhari to power combined with the efforts of Sons of the state like General Yusuf Brutai and Babagna Monguno , I think the voices or shouts of our cries could even reach the Antarctica by now.

Many journalists this days describe him as the Nigeria's defacto Prime Minister because of his frequent invitation of the government to him to represent her at various levels or offer his advise based on his experience,but behind the scene.

He is a son-in-Law to late Alhaji Mai Deribe (His wife Hajiya Kolo Kingibe was given out to him by Alhaji Mai Deribe).

Summary:
Kingibe was variously the Senior Political Counselor, Nigeria High Commission, London and Ambassador to Greece, Cyprus and Pakistan between 1981 and 1985. Before then, he was the Principal Secretary, Political, in the Supreme Military Headquarters between 1976 and 1979.

A thorough bred bureaucrat, Kingibe became Permanent Secretary in the presidency in 1986. He had also at various times been minister of Foreign Affairs, Internal Affairs, and Power and Steel.
