gbaky_floor: @Abagworo, I beg to differ a little. Cross Rivers state doesn't have Igbos as the indigenous tribe(s). Rather Igbo settlers from Igbo communities whom were either banished from their towns of origin or were craftsmen/traders.

That being said, such Igbo settlers were actually practising the culture of the people they inhabit their land.

Thus the Igbo clan(whom are termed Igbos because of their names and language) in Cross Rivers isn't practising Igbo tradition but rather adapted the ibibio traditions as theirs.

The real Igbo communities are regarded as those from Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Imo and Ebonyi states(there are some Igbos that will claim Igbos from some communities in Ebonyi state are not full breed Igbos)

Abia and Southern Ebonyi comprises mostly of Cross river Igbos.

Is Cross-River the name of a tribe?
Cross-river state wey Nigerian government create yesterday naim people dey call as if it existed way back.
So if government carves out a particular area and it happens that this area includes igbo people who I suppose have been living side by side for long time, that will make the Igbo people settlers? Just because their numbers are not that much.

Crosssriver Igbos are not the Igbos that live in Cross River. There's a river near Arochukwu known as Cross River and the Igbo tribes around there Edda, Abam, Arochukwu, Abiriba, Nkporo etc were collectively referred to as "Cross River Igbos" because of their proximity to the river. Cross River State was only name after the river just like. Ebonyi, Imo and Anambra were named after Imo, Anambra and Ebonyi rivers.

After seeing a report on this topic by a reporter from Channels Tv, I decided to dig a little. Rather than accusing one tribe or the other, read up my findings here www.luciandos..com . For the records, some tribes in Nigeria still kill twins.

You have all deviated from the question. these replies have in no way helped anyone who is in need of an academic research. you changed the question to rather, "WAS THE IGBOS PRACTISING KILLING OF TWINS?" The question is what was the reason. Believe it or not, we are all Africans and guilty of all African practices.

I think or I have read something concerning this before. I think the reason is that they believe that only animals give birth in pairs or multiples, like the case of a hen, goat, pig, etc who give birth to more than one offspring. So, the reason had it that they believed that it was an animal so to say, or that it is not a real human being and as such, abomination(to the land), that a human being should give birth to animals. I came across something like this in a book. I can't categorically say which book but THINGS FALL APART may give a clue.
Thanks.
