Over the last few weeks there have been a lot of deaths especially among the elderly in Kano city and it's environs. These deaths were attributed to be resulted from several ailments as reported by the authorities in the State, the ailments ranging from diabetes, hypertension, Malaria among others were said to be the major cause of the massive unnatural deaths.

However, being the season of a deadly pandemic ravaging the entire world with massive deaths resulting to shut down of most of the world's economic activities and entire nations, one cannot fail to try to link the deaths in Kano with the deadly pandemic.

The first case Covid19 pandemic in Nigeria was confirmed on the 27th of February 2020. The case is an Italian citizen who works in Nigeria and returned from Milan, Italy to Lagos, Nigeria on the 25th of February 2020. With view to the economic activities going between Kano and Lagos one can safely attest to the fact that it will be easy for any ailment to be transported from Lagos to Kano.

Over the last 2 months there has been a trend of a very nasty cold (catarrh) causing severe fever, headache, chest pain and other related symptoms of catarrh in Kano. This ailment has been spreaded widely in Kano city and environs to the extent that you'll hardly find a home with none of such infection, the catarrh was very infectious and spread with ease, it goes through all of the family members. Luckly the catarrh is easily cured using regular catarrh treatment drugs and methods for some, while for some it lingers for a while developing into more complex ailments.

This trend has been going upto the last few weeks when the Covid19 fight becomes intensified in Nigeria, this is when random deaths started, and the trend of the deaths is among people within the age range of 50-60 years, who happen to have other terminal illnesses.

As a citizen of Kano living within the city, I have seen my fare share of these deaths among neghbours, friends and family and I can attest to the fact that majority of deceased starts with the above mentioned infection before the case becoming complex. I have friends who are doctors and nurses and I try to understand what is really happening from them, one of my friends who is a nurse, and who unfortunately had a patient die on him during this trying time, explained to me that there is a high percentage of these people developing respiratory complications before dying, respiratory complications is one of the most distinguished symptoms of coron virus disease.

Put in mind that Kano is the state where test for this deadly disease was halted for over 4 days, citing lack of reagents or something as an excuse for that. Up to the date of this writing Kano has not tested 2000 people in a state of over 15 million, and the authorities saying that no evidence of Covid19 as a cause of mass death in Kano, have no evidence to back their sayings, because no one conducted any test on the deceased to confirm what actually killed them.

I am not a medical doctor or a health personnel and this is entirely my opinion, and I cannot authoritatively tell you what is the cause of the mass death going on in Kano, but summing up the above mentioned phenomenons one can easily see how the Covid19 pandemic can easily be the cause of mass deaths in Kano.

For me I don't think there is any shame in opening up about what is happening with one with regards to issues like this, and Kano experience much higher death rates due to Malaria in some seasons. For instance for over 3 consecutive years now there have been a trend of high fever ravaging the city on the verge of rainy season each year, which I think results into more deaths than the being experienced now. The victims of this deaths are even more serious as it is more prevalent among children and pregnant women.

My verdict is that government should try to ease this lockdown if they cannot do aggressive testing to confirm if the prevalent cases of catarrh that is still going in the State is not actually Corona virus; if it is actually Corona virus then the pandemic is not actually as deadly as we are led to believe and the hunger ravaging the society is even the deadliest. Evedently copying other countries answers to the pandemic may not actually work for us and the spike in deaths experienced in Kano actually aggravated upon imposing the lockdown on the state.

I don't see the use of locking down people living with corona virus like ailments when you cannot test them or make available health facilities to help cure them from whatever is it that is killing them.

MMM.

UP TILL NOW, INSTEAD OF COLLECTIVELY CALLING OUT THESE FOOLS AND HOLDING THEM ACCOUNTABLE, A SECTION OF MY FELLOW CITIZENS STILL BELIEVE GOD IS FIGHTING THIS BATTLE FOR THEM. THEY BELIEVE THAT NO MATTER WHAT WE DO, "NA JUST GOD DE PROTECT PERSON".
SO THEY JUST SAY LITTLE PRAYERS IN THEIR MINDS, AND CARRY ON WITH THEIR DAILY ACTIVITIES HOPING THAT CALAMITY SPARES THEM AND THEIR FAMILIES.

OVER HERE, I HAVE NEVER SEEN (OR HEARD) ANYONE GETTING TESTED. THERE'S NOTHING LIKE NCDC HERE, NOT TO TALK OF ISOLATION UNITS. ALL THAT I HEAR IS THE AMOUNT OF DOLLARS SPENT ON THE PALLIATIVES THAT NO SOUL IN THIS WHOLE TOWN HAS SEEN EVEN IN DREAMS. IT IS AS IF THE GOVERNMENT IS PLAYING PRANKS BUT HERE AND THERE, BODIES KEEP DROPPING EVERYDAY.
INSTEAD OF ASKING THE RIGHT QUESTIONS, WE OFFER THE RIGHT PRAYERS AND PRETEND WE'RE BULLET PROOF, UNTIL IT HAPPENS TO US, THEN AS USUAL, WE CLOSE FOR THE DAY WITH "GOD KNOWS BEST".
