This is probably not the appropriate section for this topic but I had to post it here.

I had my first taste of sleep paralysis about 3 years ago in mid 2017, on that fateful night, I opened my eyes from a deep sleep and I realized something was wrong; I couldn't move. I was the only one sleeping in the dark room, I could see the open door and the dim light filtering in from outside but I couldn't move any part of body. I tried to shout or make a sound but I couldn't. From the corner of the eyes, I could make what looked like moving shapes and forms in the room. Panic set in and I was overcame by a kind of dread and fear I have never felt before. I later regained control of my body after few minutes that felt like a small-scale eternity to me. Sleep never crossed my eyes till daybreak and out of fear, I never slept in that same room again for several weeks.

I never told anyone what I experienced and it repeated again few nights later. For many nights afterwards I refused to sleep, dreading my fate if I ever dare close my eyes. I wasn't a superstitious person and I knew that there was a rational explanation for what I experienced. After many attempts, I finally saw a article explaining the phenomenon on a lucid dreaming website and from then onwards, I started trying to slowly regain control of my body by moving my toes and eyelids whenever I experienced it. It was almost impossible doing it at first but I slowly mastered it.

Have you ever experienced sleep paralysis before, kindly share your experience.

This phenomenon is normal to me now. The first time i experienced it, i thought it's a spiritual thing (lol) nd i jst jejely kept it to myself. Time past and luckily for me i saw a post about it on fb. Ever since then i learn to control it and guess when to expect it occurence.

I never placed faith in such things, because I knew every natural phenomenon has a rational explanation, though in some cases the cause isn't known yet.

And also, it's unfortunate that even though there are tons of articles and research on the internet explaining dreams and how the sleep cycle works, people still attribute such things to demonic attacks, witchcraft and "village people".

I had it for 10 years now, I'm pretty much used to it. At first you think you're going to die or worse be stuck paralysed. Now I'm not so bothered but it can be a big inconvenience, especially when I sleep around others because I can still hear them and sometimes see them so it's really unsettling.
