In sweet university today - Betty Tell Jay-Jay about the randy lecturer's request

“Ehn! Ehehehehe! Betty, you won’t kill me! You mean you were attacked by G-gal’s clique? Mi ole wa ku ooo,Olorun mi o”: Edith yelled at Betty who was shivering all over. “ThankGod for your life, sho gbo! And who did you say was your saviour?” she continued. “One Jay-Jay like that.”Betty whimpered “gba! Do you know who is G-gal and who Jay-jay is in the university?

Just thank God for your life o” Edith screamed again. Betty got to know from her yelling friend some facts about G-gal and Jay-Jay. Jay-Jay is a 300 level medical student in the school, he is well respected by students and lecturers due to his “high-tech” brain. He also is the gang leader of a cult, and his cult is the most powerful in the school, even other cults respect him. One surprising fact is that despite his indulgence in cultist activities; he still manages to be the best student in his department.

G-gal has been in school for five years now, though she offered a four yrs course, she still has some courses to settle before graduation. She is the gang leader of the female cultists in the school. “What am I gonna do now?” Betty asked, not minding the quiver in her voice. “My dear just forget about Emeka Jonas” Edith flipped. Betty gaped at her, different thoughts flowing through her mind,” why? Why should I?” Betty asked quietly.

“Because he is gonna cause you trouble!” Edith snapped ” and if you won’t forget him…face your troubles alone” Edith continued” meanwhile Good night,” Edith said lying down on her bed. Betty sighed, she lay down too, hugged her pillow and wept, she missed her mum. Emeka lay down on his fluffy carpet listening to his friends;

They were arguing on football issues “I swear C.Ronaldo fine pass Ozil” Chuks said. “You even dey compare? Mtcheww, e be like say your eye blind, I take garri wey I drink this morning swear say Ozil fine pass” Chisom replied “You dey use garri swear? Me I use Adamu’s shayi and bread swear” Chuks retorted Chisom was about to voice his own opinion when Emeka raised his hands “Hey! Calm down guys, stop arguing who fine pass, let's talk about who is the best scorer…” “ooooooh! Tell this mumu for me o” Chuks said mocking at Chisom “ogini! Who be mumu? How many goals Ronaldo score for Madrid?” Chisom snapped… And on the argument went till Emeka’s phone rang.

He ran towards his bedroom” Hello?” “Hy, please can you meet me at coke village now? The twin statue to be precise” Betty replied urgently. “Ok, just five minutes, and I'll be there.” “Thanks see ya then,” Betty said ending the call. He stared at his phone, he wondered what was wrong. “Guys, I’m going out,” Emeka said picking his car keys “where you dey go?” Chisom queried “to see Betty i guess” Chuks chuckled “Bye” Emeka said no minding their questions.

**************
He saw her standing beside the statue, she looked worried.”Hy” “Hy” she replied, “hope I’m not late?” “no you are not” she did not smile. “we need to talk” “okay, let's sit down.” “I don’t feel like, let's keep standing” she said quickly “okay…” he was worried as she rehearsed the previous night’s episode for him.

“I’m sorry..but I don’t know who G-gal is,” he told her looking concerned. “Are you trying to tell me…” she stopped cos her voice was rising. She turned to leave “Please don’t go,” he held her arm. “I won’t lie to you…you’re my best friend” he continued and she rolled her eyes.

“Please,” he pleaded and she wondered why he was pleading with her. “I value our friendship alot, and…” his voice trailed off. “aiit, its just that I value my life too, or do have any intentions apart from we being just friends?” Betty said quietly. Emeka’s heart missed a beat,

He is not gonna tell her now, he could feel her eyes searching him, he is gonna wait till later, soon, when she is in a good mood “No” he said in a low voice. “Good” came her reply “still friends” she added hugging him “Yea, best friends” He replied, thanking God for the hug, she smiled,”hmmn, so have you gat anything to do?” “no” “okay, can you help me with some assignment, you did MTH103?” She asked “Yea,,,dat was my favourite course”he replied smiling “Thanks” “Oh please! What are best friends for?!” he chuckled, taking her hands. And they walked towards a buka.

********
“Time’s up” the invigilator shouted. Betty raised up her paper in unison with her coursemates, they just finished writting a test. The invigilator went round collecting the papers after he was done, he left without a word. The hall became rowdy as all of them started conversing with friends. “keep quiet!” the class rep boomed, and they all did, seeing a lecturer standing before them.

They all respect the lecturer, he takes no-nonsense. ”Who is Betty Amah, Registration number Sci/09/BCH/8223?” the lecturer asked almost squealing, due to his tiny voice.

Betty shuddered as she stood up, she knew Mr Adams-the lecturer won’t do this for anything. “See me in my office after the class” He squealed again. She slumped into her seat, she hardly listened to what he was teaching, she was miles away in the land of imaginations… perhaps she failed her test or some lecturers to her case to him or her script got missing,or he didn’t see her assignment booklet, perhaps she wrote rubbish or.

She was sweating profusely, even the fan couldn’t help. God please help me, I need you now Lord, She thought. She sighed as he ended the lectures and left. She stood up immediately and followed him. She stood for about ten mins by his door muttering some prayers. She knocked slightly, no answer, she knocked again “come in”

********
“Come in” Betty’s legs became so weak that she wondered if they could carry her. “Good afternoon sir!” she said weakly; flexing her knees in unision. “uhmmm” Mr Adams grunted. “Sit down” he gestured towards a chair. She perched on the chair facing him, her eyes and ears expectant. “So you are Betty Amah.” He began. “yes sir” Betty shifted uneasily on her seat.

“Uhm!” he grunted looking up. “I’ve heard alot about your beauty, and I now believe what I’ve heard, you are more pretty than people described you to be,” he added grinning sheepishly. What does he want; Betty’s heart raced, he definitely did not call her to tell her she beautiful.

“You see…I want to host you at my guesthouse” He said finally. “I…sir…I’m sorry, I don’t understand” Betty replied, lips quivering. “Don’t play games with me Betty, you know what I’m driving at” Mr Adams said impatiently. “And I know you’ve heard about me, I don’t play childish games, people don’t turn down my requests” He added with a frown. “I need not remind you that you are offering my course, a core course. You have a choice, either a night at the guest house or a continuous failure in my course” He continued. “Sir please,…” Betty is close to tears now.

“Please sir, have mercy on me, I can’t do it..please” she went on her knees. “What can’t you do?” He sneered. “Sir please…I’m like a daughter to you, don’t do this to me. I beg you in the name of God” Betty choked in between tears.

“What nonsense!” Mr Adams snapped.” leave my office now! And mind you, you have 24hrs to think about it, I need you tomorrow night. Offer closed by 8 pm tomorrow, and you’ll have to carry over my course” He added with a note of finality. “Sir please…” “Leave my office now!”He ordered and she scampered out of the office...Continue Reading
