The Supreme Court, on Friday, invalidated the judgment that indicted and condemned the previous legislative head of Abia State, Orji Uzor-Kalu, to 12 years detainment.

The apex court, in a consistent choice by a seven-man board of Justices drove by Justice Amina Augie, held that the Federal High Court in Lagos acted without purview when it sentenced Kalu, his firm, Slok Nigeria Limited and previous Director of Finance in Abia State, Jones Udeogu.

It held that preliminary Justice, Mohammed Liman, was not, at this point an appointed authority of the Federal High Court as at the time he sat and conveyed the judgment that sentenced the respondents for supposedly taking about N7.1billion from Abia state treasury.

As per the Supreme Court, Justice Liman, having been raised to the Court of Appeal before then, came up short on the forces to come back to sit as a High Court Judge.

It held that the Fiat that was given to him by the Court of Appeal President pursuant to section 396(7) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act was unconstitutional.

Thus, the apex court abandoned the judgment that indicted the litigants and requested new preliminary of the respondents.
