I hate the sound of generator. I have one but don't like using it.

Which small solar set up can I get for just charging of phones, laptops and fan?

I always get confused each time I check because of too many options and paid reviews. This is worsened by the fact that I am not in Lagos.

I would have gone for the mtn lumous but the reviews are bad.

I need practical real life experience please.
Like solar brand, pwm or mppt brand, battery etc

Marketers stay off.

You should actually pay an electrical engineer or invite qualified nairalanders to give you a quote, sort of a mini RFP. The person will check the capacity of all your equipment You want to run, how many hours of electricity you get in a week typically, how long you want your equipment to run, say 18/24 hrs, then use these numbers to give you a list of what you need to buy. If possible also, the brand of equipment to buy, to avoid stories that touch.

RFP should cost you little or nothing, it doesn’t lock you in with anyone, they just send in their quotes either as a favor or as a paid service.

The ones I find here aren't competent at all.
They fail simple questions I ask them to ascertain their competence.

Are you willing to pay for my services if I give you professional advice ?

Let's start with what your budget is.
How many hours of electricity do you currently get ?

I see I'm tagged. Cool. I think you can make do with two 250w poly solar panel and one 200ah battery with a 1kva pure sinewave inverter. You can get a 30A or 40A MPPT solar charge controller. There is a marketer with awesome reviews that you can contact. His profile is this
https://www.nairaland.com/justcallmenuel ie justcallmenuel
Feel free to check him up and decide by yourself if you like what you see.

FYI: I'm not in any way affiliated with him, only recommending him based on positive reviews I've seen and his apparent cheap pricing. In this business, you must use a marketer to get your stuff, unless of course you know your way to Alaba Las Gidi grin grin

Go with mctfopt recommendation.

It is assumed and inferred from your comment that utility is non-existent hence you'll be relying on solar. Your major concern should be on harnessing the power of the sun for immediate usage and storage for night time usage.

1) Your total load as stated is less than 200W so a 1kw 12V inverter will do. Budget 20-50k for this.

2) Your solar charge controller should be capable of delivering 400W for the battery and also the balance for your day time load of say 200W. Go for a 50A 12V solar charge controller. This will be able to supply you with 600W instantaneous power when fully loaded.
This will be the brain of your system. If you get it wrong here or in panel, you'll pay dearly in frequent battery replacement. Budget 20-100k for this .

3) Go for 4 200W solar panel. That's a total of 800W. Don't dwell too much on this figure. This is theoretical output at standard output conditions. In real life your generation will range from 0W to 600W depending on solar insolation at your location. This should be enough for your use during the day and night, provided you have enough storage capacity.

4) For battery, 12V 200AH battery should be okay if your average night time load is below 100W. This is a cumulative 1.6kW draw (4pm to 8am) from a 2.4kW energy storage (66% depth of discharge). and you need to replenish same in the day as the sun shines - approx 6hrs. And should take you through the night as you shut down laptop. Budget 120k for this.

This is the minimum you should go for to enjoy your investment in the absence of utility supply.

Your can go for an axpert brand like felicity which combines inverter (1} and solar charge controller (2) in one.

This is purely based on the information provided and is for a night backup usage.
Note: Standard analysis should cater for 3 days of no sunshine.

I would encourage you to increase your budget a bit to 200k
Not that your budget can't work, but increasing your budget would give you that allowance to get more quality stuff, especially considering the fact that you have not had electricity for the past 3 months

You have multiple options

1. The Luminous delite package(that's if you can still get it, I think its now scarce).
--It comprises of a 150ah tubular battery(very important, tubular batteries are better than SMF batteries) , a trolley and 900va inverter (Approx 120k for the total package )
--Buy an affordable charge controller 20A ( max 7.5k . I know its cheap and may not be as durable as mppt chargers, na wetin your budget fit buy ), I don't think this particular luminous inverter comes with solar input, hence the need for a charge controller
- Buy a 150 watt panel ( max 23-25k) , if you can increase your budget, buy two, to charge your battery faster

2.
-Buy one 220ah tubular battery for about 100-120k (this would give you more hours than the 150ah battery) Luminous or genus would do
- Buy Famicare inverter 1kva (the one with solar input) - Max 30-32k
- Buy a 150 watt panel ( max 23-25k) , if you can increase your budget, buy two, to charge your battery faster

NOTE:
Make sure you get a good installer that would use the right wires to reduce energy loses.
Make sure you change all the bulbs in your home to energy saving bulbs
Turn off appliances you are not making use of.
Don't use a regular fan, use a rechargeable fan

Don't buy any used product if possible buy directly from the company to ensure that you are buying original !

Well, you can buy anyone you see. The difference between the two these days are almost unnoticeable due to technological advancements in their production.

Op thanks for the thread and i hail the different contributors ,so far its been informative to us all.
In my own case,i always get power but at midnight when its hardly useful. I'm thinking of getting an inverter that can be charged over the night and used during the day. I only need to power my laptop, LED tv(serving as my projection screen)and small fan.
Any ideas please .

You will have to get about like ₦250,000 to get a 1Kva inverter, 200amps battery, charge controller, two solar panels of 12v(300watts) and then cables for the connection.
