The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has condemned the demolition of hotels in Rivers by the state government.

The civic group also threatened to take legal action against the state governor, Nyesom Wike describing the demolition of as illegal.

“We condemn the reported demolition of Prodest Hotel by Gov Wike, Rivers State. Using COVID-19 to perpetrate human rights violations is executive rascality and Mr Wike must stop this now.

“We’re taking legal action to hold him and his government to account for illegal actions.

“The demolition of Prodest Hotel is forced evictions and in violation of article 11 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and other human rights treaties to which Nigeria is a state party,” SERAP disclosed via its official Twitter handle.

The Rivers State Government had earlier on Sunday demolished two hotels in the state allegedly for violating the lockdown order in the state.

Governor Wike personally supervised the demolition of the structures in the company with some government officials.

The affected hotels are Prodest Hotel in Alode and Etemeteh Hotel in Onne – both in Eleme Local Government Area (LGA) of the State.

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. (Proverb 14:12)

Wike, the same crowd hailing jesus, were the same crowd shouting nail him.. be careful when people are praising you.. some don't mean well for you.

One thing I am sure of is that Wike will pay dearly for this, if not now, he will certainly for it few years from now.

To think that some people were hailing him just a few weeks ago for targeting a particular set of people cheesy

All those that lost their properties should unite and sue him. We are not in a military regime.

...and he should be made to rebuild what he destroyed with his personal money.

SERAP please allow this man seek other ways of getting back something.

Don't pour fuel inside fire. Let the man chill for a few weeks, then use back-channels to get to the Gov, and see how he can recover.

These people in Govt see themselves as gods , the one Obaseki scattered, what did the Courts do? Fashola nko?

Let alone a Wike you want to sue in Rivers...someone who is High Court, CoA & SC. He shall be an ex-Gov someday.
