Is An MBA Degree Worth It? by poksmahn(m): 10:15pm On May 14, 2020
Hi guys.

I am curious to know if getting an MBA is worth it in Nigeria today. I'm 23 and I was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2018 but I was bitten by the entrepreneurial bug and so I never got to practice law.

After service, I focused on my small, fledgling business and I realized I had a lot of free time on my hands. I ran into a buddy of mine from school and I found out he was already doing his LL.M. I asked him why? Cos he wasn't practicing law too and was running his own business. He said an LL.M would boost his credibility with business associates and he encouraged me to do mine.

I felt since I wasn't practicing at all, an MBA would be perfect because it was in line with what I was already doing. My friend said an LL.M pulls more weight than an MBA unless I get it from abroad or the Lagos Business School. Funny guy.

I went to enquire about the requirements for running one and the admin guy was surprised that a lawyer wants to make the switch to Business Administration. I told him I wasn't practicing law and he said an LL.M would be ideal.

So, does an MBA really open doors for you? I'd be glad to read your thoughts on this.

Both carries almost equal weight. Lagos business school makes a whole lot of sense, just as your friend suggested.

I am currently a masters student in unilag and I can say for a fact that it helps a lot. Not only your horizon, but your audience will sure give the floor to speak.
