Thank you, after going through those cars on their profiles & the details. I can conclude that the ones that are in good condition are not less than 1M to be honest.

That’s not a problem as I still earn!
And I planned to buy tokumbo hence engine issues wouldn’t arise atleast for few years

Buying Tokumbo isn't the survivor.

Car isn't an investment and it doesn't appreciate. If I am to advice, I would say drop the idea of car and secure a property or business for the future. You don't the end result of this Covid-19 oo

Buy car when you can raise it's money. Maintaining a car isn't that simple.

Scale your preferences anyway. Good luck

Honestly, it is not so good to buy a car with a loan but in your case, you should get a car.
Maybe a Camry, a friend just bought a Camry 2009 for 1.4 and it's cool.
Do not buy anyhow car, else you regret it.

1.4?? In Lagos? Wow!!

Ok. As at the time of discuss I planned to get a car hence I applied for the loan. Later started having second thought when I saw an available land for sale. But then I have started the process already.

So this was my confusion. I only felt the need for the car cos of the travails of my family

You write exactly like someone who has never own a car before. You have the feeling that buying the car will solve all your life problems.

If you must know, your wife carrying your child under the sun is not strange. Even if you get a car for her, there are some markets in Lagos that she cannot go with the car because of lack of parking space.

Calm down about this car thing. It may not be what it seems from afar.

A land of 1.5 million in Lagos should be in ibeju lekki or badagry

Go and buy korope with it, you will use it to service the loan. Look for a small car for mobility.

Establish ur wife so that u will have extra income before talking of properties.

All these people mentioning 300k 500k car, if it’s not a run-down-barely-alive vehicle, you guys sure they are not stolen cars? I can’t understand how a car can be that cheap. Forgive my ignorance.

Also 1.5 mil land in Lagos sounds sketchy. Some are even asking him to split the money and buy land with half of it. If it’s possible, then it a good deal but do They sell land that cheap in Lagos? I’m wowed.

Thing is I’m afraid OP will end up losing out on both ends. He might end up with a car that is stolen or at best a car with an honest background that won’t last him a year. As for the cheap land, be careful OP. Land matters kills people easily in Nigeria. Too many frauds ripping others off.

Taking a loan for a car is not a good idea at all, you should just try to double your hustle till you can truly afford one for your wife. By the way, can she drive?

Cars come with plenty wahala, and according to my friend “car wey no Dey give wahala, the owner get money”. So can you really afford a car right now? The true cost of a car is not just the initial purchase price, it is also the cost of servicing and unplanned repairs.

My friend bought a direct tokunbo Highlander, before it got to his location, the engine knocked. He bought another tokunbo engine without even driving the car for one day. So think about it well, at this point can you really afford a car?

May God give you the wisdom and grace you need to make the right decisions

1.5m loan to buy a car. Very bad idea. There are small cars like micra, baby boy or 2000 corola you can buy for her. For 9ja used pencil of 500k to 600k no bad

2009 Camry 1.4? That cheap? Is it Nigerian used?
certainly that would be a Naija used now the duty for a Toks of that car is about 650-700k now but with this covid-19 issue if you look around very well with your nose you shld get a very good car for 1m for Naija used and luckily some correct Toks because some pple need money badly during this period. Just make sure you check whatever you are buying very well

You said "it sadden your heart(high blood pressure, depression, stress) seeing your two kids and wife trekking under hot sun".
My friend go for your first heart desire .
I will advise you, go for car, as long it gives you the internal joy, happiness and satisfaction you & family needs.
Land "No dey finish for naija",
once you have money, you can buy land anywhere or even complete building.
Don't deprive yourself happiness, once you are happy internally you can achieve anything.

Why should your wife take her two kids to the market in the first place? What are they looking for?

Why should you even drive to the kind of markets I see in Lagos? Where's the parking space?

I don't understand the idea behind the desperation to be honest. May be there's something else you haven't mentioned.

If you're worried about "stress", you could get her a maid to assist her with household duties, market, etc. While the maid is still around, double your hustle and get a car (if you so need it) with your savings/part-savings.

As per the loan, if you can't invest it on a business or any other profitable and legit venture, it's better to return the loan before interests begin to accumulate.

Good day

Those cars are not good enough for a family man. Not presentable either, I checked it and it's looks like 3rd hand Nigerian use definitely. Which means a lot of money would be spent trying to maintain after buying.

I only said my personal observations.

Hello guys, I am kinda in a dilemma.
I took a loan of about 1.5m and had two things in mind. A land or a car.

Now I base in lagos, with two kids. Going around in a bus with two kids is not funny at all. When I look at my wife I pity her and I feel she deserves a car to move around.

On a second thought, I feel taking a loan to buy a car is not wise. I saw a land for around that amount and was thinking if o should go for it.

Now; weighing both options. Sometimes there are urgent running around to do, but we are handicapped due to mobility.

Secondly if I end up buying the land, I have no funds to even develop it. Lagos is not a place to leave a land idle. I would be servicing loan so wouldn’t be able to do anything for now.

Kindly advise

I will give you my undilluted advice which I think is the best option.
Get a clean cheaper car of 700k and then use the remaining 800k to start up a small business while you put your wife or any trusted sibling in charge of the business.
You can now be using the profit from the business for feeding and fueling.
DONT BUY THE LAND, I REPEAT DONT BUY THE LAND. What if you have legal issue from the land which money will you be using to pay lawyer and other legal fee. Be patient about land for now, you can still get land and build later in life.
Your wife will be the happiest woman if you take my above advice.

Buy a land for 1.5m in which area exactly? Many glorified landlords in Lagos laying claim to run down houses in slums and ghetto.

My friend, get yourself a car, as long as you earn a monthly income. Ensure you don't buy a scrap for 300k. Get a tokunbor of like 1.2m. Maybe a 2003 civic or 2004 Camry. A car may not be termed an asset but it is a necessity.

When you grow small you go buy better land in a decent area, not one useless place.

As for business, people think you just invest 1.5m and triple the amount just because it's business. Any business you don't understand will not stand the test of time. Only dabble into business after proper feasibility study or apprenticeship.

If the land you saw is OK for you to live there and go to work, buy half plot, use the balance and erect a room and parlor self contain.

Move your things there and start living there then plan on how to own a car

A car is like a human being that must consume to live a car must be maintained and Nigeria roads are the major cause of car problem

If you think the land is far from you to go to work, then get a car

But bear in mind that you will need to buy a land one day and develop it
