Abeg, who are these people designing websites for 4k? Can you please post ypur website here or a website you've done for 4k. No disrespects o, but this thing dey turn to disgrace o. when did websites costs 4k? everything in this country always has its own funny way of changing. I employ all web designer in this country if you are unique and have pride in doing this stuff please dont sell your self out. That the main reason why someone is saying all web designers in nija are amateurs. if you know how to design websites well and because u no get money you bring your self so low to the extent that you design websites for 4k, im sorry but you are dragging all web designers into the mud. the trend is definitly changing, web designers in this country would soon be like rockstars (you watch). we still have a long way to go so please give us a chance. No design website for any body for 4k o! rather do it free, belive me doing it free protects your image than doing it for 4k. (NO B FIGHT O, ITS JUST DISTURBING) 1 love. |

Hello mate, I really appreciate what u guys said.i once posted an article about may be we need to have something like a fixed price but most of the guys here disagree.though i'm new to web design and i see no reason why somebody will learn web designing with almost 50k or more than,and at the end of the day they charge 4k.it is really embarrasing,it is better one do it for free as a charity rather than chrging 4k, but i believe pple charging 4k dont know what they are doing,  |

The amount you charge for any service (in this instance website design) depends on your experiences, the resources you will be using and how you value yourself. I for one will never undervalue myself inorder to get a job. If a client wants a good quality job, he/she must be ready to paid for it. I am just sorry for those that charge 4k for webdesign, for how long will them continue to be in business with this peanut. |

What is the essence of website development? The basic reason is to give information and NOTHIN ELSE. As much as i dont support mediocrity but this is a free world jare  If its a website that involves Database, Content management, audio/video streaming then i can understand. |

A website can be developed for free, for N4,000.00 or for even over a million naira depending on whether the owner is your friend, an NGO kind of thing or a big organisation respectively. Afterall, we have seen very good websites that didn't cost a fortune just as we have seen very bad ones costing so much money. Put differently, the cost does not directly impact on the quality as some of us may wrongly assume. Microsoft products are expensive whereas Open Source products are free yet in terms of reliability, flexibility and acceptability the world is increasing going the way of open source. If you can design a very good website for N4,000.00 please tell me I will give you projects to do as long as they are done well. |

@Soulstar, Are you a web developer? If yes, can you list a single website you have developed? They say empty barrels make the most noise. Thanks for the lecture on the difference between webpages and websites but that wasn't the issue on board. A simple advice: You cannot become relevant by trying to run down other people just as you cannot become a good footballer by knowing the names of the footballers. |

soulstar: i wonder how you're going to make a website without webpages? and to my understanding webpages,videos,images and others form a website? web pages are documents written in HTML and can be accessed through http @topic i can do sites for free and i don't think people should come here and make noise about their 1 million naira or half a million naira sites without putting links for us to see. Websites of 4k depends on what they are for or the kind of site they are, could be static with few webpages and not much graphics and i don't personally think they are worth more than 5k judging by our nations economy |

takin afam's advice, i've decided to keep quiet for some time bt i must chip in a few things: my first thot on vicky's site was not bad bt going down ahhhhh! that's really, im speechless and to think unlike me ur paying for hosting oboatioko, u've designed a website for 500k and more, so y shouldn't u b able to design a site for free.get it? mayb we could go on a date and talk contacts all guys that can put up a professional website wt 4k are those who've made it already, afam etc, prove me wrong wotelse  4k is too cheap esp if u're paying for quality hostin 5k, domain name for years above 5k, and time spent on net like me, get it? |

There is a difference b/w web design and web development. If all you do is slap things together on a site, without any thought process to it, then you are the equivalent of an artist who uses a brush to throw paint onto a canvas and calls it art. There is a difference. If you have noticed my posts, I never use "design" but "development". There is a difference. As many have said here, whether you charge 4K or you do it for free, it is up to you. It is an unwise thing to do, but you can do it nonetheless. As I like to say, "Not that I would, but I could". Personally, I would rather go work for Mr. Biggs than charge 4k for a website, even if all it said was "Hello World". If you want to charge 4K, you might as well do it for free. Heck, you are better off working for the United Nations. I hear they are hiring Playing Devil's advocate, perhaps such people are new to the game and are trying to gain experience. In other words, as their experience/demand grows, so should their prices. Other than this scenario, biko, try make am at least 10K (not that I am advocating you charge 10K, which is still too small in my books). Have pride in what you do. Don't adopt the Walmart/Tesco ideology because those guys are selling in bulk. How many websites will you build for 4K for you to be able to afford anything in Nigeria? I mean, I am not in Nigeria, but I am sure 4K won't even buy you a bag of Uncle Bens rice. As always, my 2 cents |

 wow! i am loving this. @la!, abeg tell them oooooo! Just a few days ago, i rejected N20,000 for a website just because i felt it wasn't enough for a quality job. I deliver quality and rather than sell myself cheap, i wont do it. It's not that i am rich. my biggest project was for N180,000 but that is just me. Chest beating and bragging won't do anyone any good. We have seen bad websites costing over N200,000.00 just as we have seen well setup websites costing much less so in reality the price does not necessarily guarantee the quality of the website built. If you require a static 5-10 pages website it can be built (provided the content is available) for N4,000.00 if the web developer chooses to collect that amount. In any case it won't take up to 2 -4 hrs to set it up so someone making N4,000.00 every four hours will certainly make more money than someone rejecting N20,000.00 and waiting for people to pay say N100,000.00 or more. The bottomline is the skill set and experience, enough of the boasting jare, that is why Nigerians find it difficult to make money because they always want to play the big man even when those they see as poor men are having it better. The average okada man makes more money than the average banker that leaves the house before 6.00am and comes home by 8-10.00pm every work day but the perception is different. |

segebee: Ok, maybe it is time to clarify a few things. 1. Web design or programming or even development to mean does not include the domain name and web hosting as these are entirely different parts of the whole website. 2. We have just one hosting plan for static websites and it is N24,000.00 per year while our hosting plans for dynamic websites (with PHP and Mysql support) starts from N42,000.00 per year. We do not compromise on the reliability of our servers as we have dedicated email, web, database servers. All my references and comments on this thread are based on the premise that web design or development precludes domain name registration (we charge N3,000.00 per year) and web hosting. Any confusion created is regretted. |
