THIS IS FOR THE TRIBALIST

More facts have emerged on the situation leading to the emergence of Mr. Mike Okiro as the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) ahead of his compatriot, Mr. Ogbonnaya Onovo.

Contrary to the insinuation that certain forces had worked things in favour of okiro, police sources informed the Sunday Tribune that Okiro was not a junior officer to Onovo. The duo were said to have been recruited into the force in 1977.

“The two of them joined the force the same day, so the issue of seniority did not arise,” a source said. He however added that the insinuation that Onovo was the senior of the two emerged from the timing of their promotion to the post of Assistant Inspector General (AIG).

According to the source, while Onovo was promoted AIG ahead of Okiro, the two of them were named Deputy Inspector General (DIG) at the same time. Okiro is from the South South geo-political zone, while Onovo hails from the South East. Some had termed the appointments another variant of the alleged marginalization of the South East.

Some had expected Onovo, who was in charge of the ‘A’ Department of the Police under the last Inspector General, Mr. Sunday Ehindero, to take over the mantle of leadership of the force following the directive said to have been issued by President Yar’Adua on assumption of office that the highest ranking officer should take charge after Ehindero.

But it was further gathered that the government took time to study the papers of the duo of Onovo and Okiro in arriving at the choice of the latter as the Acting IGP.

The retired IGP was said to have prepared the way for a huge stir in the force when he endorsed a memo recommending the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as his likely successor.

He was said to have reasoned that the appointment would clean up the force. But the Sunday Tribune was told that President Yar’Adua had to hold on to the advice from Ehindero in view of the discovery that no fewer than 200 officers would be involved in a clear-out the appointment of Ribadu would have occasioned.

It was gathered that the government would have been forced to retire the said officers on the basis of either seniority or length of service.

Sources close to the Police informed Sunday Tribune that Ribadu, who was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG), has a number of his course mates in the ranks of Commissioners and Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP).

The President was said to have told his associates that the seniority situation in the force might have to be maintained for sometime, pending the “time we can find a saint to lead them.”

“You can see that Onovo did not retire contrary to the practice, if he was senior to Okiro, he would have thrown in the towel, which has been the practice in the force,” a source said

If MAMAJAMA is bold enough to state that he has not been insulting the Igbos as a tribe on this forum then he is capable of doing anything and should be avoided at all cost.

I prefer someone that will insult a tribe and stand by it than someone that will do so and later deny.

Sharing my personall views on IGBO man and their character is not insulting to me, take it how you want it. it's my constitutional right to speak my mind.

Though some of you may find it insulting, but that was not my intention. it's just my personal opinion. Do you think if you give me a GOOD looking IGBO girl, I wont NAK am? pls

The truth is that every tribe in Nigeria has a view about the other tribe. It takes maturity and exposure to realise that every tribe has its qualities and faults.

But when people who are meant to be educated begin to hold myopic prejudice against others it is just shameful.

For too long I chose not to be abusive on Nairaland, but lately I poured out all I knew about someones tribe when he attempted to play his politics of "Igbos are his problems". To prove my point.

Nigeria is such a diverse Nation with different culture and religion, the only common culture across cultural devide is "hatred for the Igbos"
Why has a Nation chosen to toe this path, they accuse us for the War. The issues our forefathers argued about that led to that war is still hauntingus as a Nation.

Yet Nigeria and Nigerians will not change its ways and stop hating. They have hated and blamed a particular ethnic group for all their problems for 40yrs yet our country has not been a stable and industrialized economy as a result of that.

Is'nt it about time people stop hating and respects other people's fundamental human right.

Mamajama:

I guess it is also the constitutional right of a white american to call you niger and make racist abuse on you because he has freedom of speech.
God knows the kind of Lawyer you will make when you round up your Law Degree.

please let us sheat our sword .
I do not beleive in shouting or abusing ourselves based on any linage(tribal/religious). This the 21st century guyz . let us accept our diversity and differences. It's been 47 years that NIGERIA has been together and to me it's absurd for someone to be dealing with another brother based on tribal sentiments,

I have been on an employment interview boards a couple of times and the last thing on my mind was always the tribe, let us RUN away from tribal sentimets .

It's too late to separate a marriage of 47 years

McKren you are missing the point, RACIAL SLURS is not the same as been ethnocentric, or degrading other tribes or country. we all have a right to associate with whom we dim fit. My opinion about IGBO people is simply business related. they are very aggressive and most of them are creative and will do anything to succeed in life. Does that mean all IGBO people are going to be rich? NO, some will fail but majority of them will excel. Stop classifying me with all this low life tribalistic FOOLS. thank you.

The aggressive nature of the Igbos in bussiness is the future of SMEs in Nigeria if managed and exploited very well. It should be appreciated not demonised.

Go and ask the world's most successful CEOs they are very blunt and ruthless. Thank you.

@topic

Before May 29, you posted a thread here which read "Igbo IGP a joke". When Aso Rock did all their obvious drama which was so glarring as you even foresaw it. You still have the audacity to call those who criticized Aso Rock tribalist.

Mamajama, forget the fact that the Igbos are at the recieving end here because in our society it is politically incorrect to argue anything in favour of Igbos in our society.

Lets apply common sense, does your argument on this issue conform to logic

Dude cool your heels, I had Info on who the IGP was going to be, and as things developed I didn't want to be quoted as letting the cat out of the bag, I wanted peoples opinion if Igbo man can be trusted with the security of the nation. this were the issues raised in the selection process that I heard about. Duh

should consider that as an acceptance of guilt and that you have admited being a tribalist yourself and wrongly accusing people of what you are?
