Great100000:
A Nigerian prodigy, Damilola Arowolaju, has bagged a PhD in Law from The George Washington University, in the United States of America.

Damilola, who hails from Omuo Ekiti, in Ekiti East Local Government area of Ekiti State is the son of a former Special Adviser to Governor Segun Oni on Due Process, Dr Bayo Arowolaju

Damilola, who was also the President of the 2020 PhD graduating students, was garlanded at the university’s virtual convocation ceremonies held on Thursday, May 21, 2020.

The former Special Adviser who confirmed this to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Saturday was elated that his son could be decorated with such a high academic honour at the age he secured admission to the University of Lagos, where he studied Sociology.

He said:

“My baby, Dr. Damilola Arowolaju, with the grace of God just graduated with a PhD in Law from the George Washington University School of Law, Washington DC, USA.

“He gave an address to the fellow graduands as the President of the GW Bar Association. Graciously, he did this at 24 years of age, when I was just entering the University in Nigeria for my first degree. May our children be higher and be more successful than us all. Amen

“I am overwhelmed, speechless and flabbergasted by this outstanding feat. I am excited and more motivated to do more to uplift humanity”.

Arowolaju appealed to the Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, to rejig and expand the scope of the State’s scholarship board to be able to benefit the children of the poor, who are outstanding in their academics.

In a video clip containing his speech to the graduand, Damilola said he shall continue to promote justice for all manners of men, irrespective of creed, race and class.

The swaggering academic added that no sacrifice is too much to make to protect human rights and promote self-respect among humanity, describing these as the best way to entrench equality in the system.

He said:-

“Justice means making huge sacrifices that would guarantee all constitutional freedoms for all and sundry.

“When I say justice, I mean for both innocent and guilts. The one that brings equality, stability and raise the hope for a better society. That is what we should all pursue using morality and the instrumentality of Law.

“My graduation today was a result of the sacrifices made by my parents to ensure that I excel in my academic pursuit”

TortugaPrince:
This is so misleading. This young man did not bag a Phd in law but a juris doctor degree. That is just the american equivalent of a first degree in law going by british and nigerian contexts. It is not a Phd like when one bags a Bsc, Msc and then Phd. The Juris Doctor degree (J.D. or JD), also known as the Doctor of Jurisprudence degree (J.D., JD, D.Jur. or DJur), is a graduate-entry professional degree in law. The young man's father is either ignorant or just delibrately wants to mislead people. I'm shocked that this was reported by the tibune a nigerian newspaper of repute. This is what you expect of bloggers. Sad.

Don't mind the fools. The old man knew his son didn't earn a bachelor's and/or master's degrees in Law. How could the boy jump from BSc in Social Science Education (as shown in the boy's LinkedIn profile) to PhD in Law. Nigerians are daft and would believe anything. Any wonder they fall for all these useless religious leaders, senselessly enriching fake pastors and making the religious sector economically more viable than the business sector. Stupid people.

NIGERIA SITUATIONS (Let's talk sense)
Nigerians are the most educated ethnic groups in U.S. and Canada.

They are present in Medicine, Engineering and other professions. But they are still one of poorest immigrants in U.S. and Canada.

YOU SAID WHY?

Other nationals with little or no education control the economy of U.S. and Canada.

INDIANS, control about 65% to 85% of middle to lower end of Hotels and Motels businesses in U.S. and Canada.

ARABS, control about 65% of convenient stores and junk yard businesses in U.S. and Canada.

HISPANICS, CHINESE, KOREANS AND OTHER ETHNIC GROUPS, control other businesses such as automobiles Reasurant and retail outlets.

Even some African food stores are been run by Hispanics in Los Angeles.

NIGERIANS, control certificate and degrees that cannot be passed on to the next generation or create employment for their people.

That's one of the reasons why other nationals can contribute to the development of their countries and Nigerians can not, because they lack resource to make any meaningful contribution to the development of Nigeria.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK IS WRONG WITH US? I JUST WANT TO KNOW.

Education sector in Nigeria is a scam..... All the agencies and bodies under education is a scam......

Nothing is working....

You pay lecturers high salaries and you pay teachers who put severe efforts to train a child who could not read to read and to understand how to add one and another one to give two....

Teachers who did their best to have children know alot of things that probably helped them all through their lives.....

Lecturers will often lecture and expect that you should have known whatever he/she is teaching you from the secondary school....And will often pass you handouts to go and self-study....

If our government will neglect the original starter to focus on the lecturers...then we have failed.

you have said the bitter truth. am a teacher that teaches in secondary school and when i take time to visit the primary section and see the way they teachers shout ontop of their voices, you pity them when you know the salary they collect is actually small.

there was a school in ejigbo lagos where i did part time and they were offering me 20k which would still be slashed when it is the months of vacation by half. yet you have to pass the students as no student fails is their slogan yet you would prescribe for teachers dressing colour every day of the term and yet no show ontop 40k as full teachers

i just wonder what the salary of those teachers would be now that there is lockdown as i angrily pulled out one day just like that

The first one was bagged outside Nigeria, the second is currently in a Nigerian university. I reluctantly applied after my undergraduate Professor urged me do a PhD under her, so we can work together on the improved version of a project I delivered during a professional conference after coming back to Nigeria.

Prof. recommeded me for the PhD position. I'm currently running my project, if ASUU and Covid-19 agrees, I will be defending my dissertation by next year.
That's good. Which institution?
