Re: How To Start Affiliate Marketing In Nigeria by Tony818(m): 4:55pm On May 28, 2020
Alright I will just go ahead anyway

To begin with, I want you to have a basic understanding of what affiliate marketing is, how it works, and how much you can make as an affiliate marketer.

First, What is affiliate marketing; It involves promoting a merchant or company products in return for a commission.

Secondly, How it works; When you sign up for an affiliate program and you're subsequently approved, you're given a unique link (https://www.domainname.com/ref?code) and when a visitor clicks this link a cookie is stored on their device (Mobile Phone, Desktop, Tablet).
This cookie does two things;

1. It Helps the merchant or company attribute sales to the right person and
2. It also holds an expiry date, expiry dates vary from merchant to merchant. I know YuBoss's affiliate program cookie expiry lasts for 14 days.

So what this means is that a visitor after clicking your link does not necessarily need to make a purchase immediately, they can come later within the 14 days expiry period and make the purchase.
And again if it happens that they buy the product you're promoting and also go-ahead to another product you're not promoting, both sales will count for you.

Lastly, How much can you make as an affiliate marketer? The truth is, there is no limit to the amount you can make. This is not the conventional marketing you know where a marketer is just known to promoting products of one company.
An affiliate marketer can promote products from different companies.

I will stop here to allow you to ask questions. The lecture will be continued later.

Kind regards

Re: How To Start Affiliate Marketing In Nigeria by Tony818(m): 5:20pm On May 28, 2020

Every merchant have their own cookie expiry some could be for even 90 days

Has your question been answered please

So the next thing we're going to be considering is the platform you can use to promote your affiliate links.

You can use whatever platform you like to promote your affiliate products like your social media accounts, Forums sites, Your YouTube Channel, and a blog.
However, with all the platforms listed above, a blog is more likely to attract more clicks than other platforms, and apart from that most affiliate programs will request for your website for review before you're approved.

See the reasons why a blog is more likely to attract clicks to your affiliate links
1. Your social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, etc) are filled with friends or acquaintances who may not be interested in the products you're promoting whereas with a blog you can target your ideal audience.

2. Most search queries are done on Google search and not on YouTube. A YouTube Channel should be an additional resource to make your audience resonate well with your blog content and it is not advisable to use it as a sole platform to promote your affiliate links.

Now we have settled and agreed on the platform that attracts most clicks to your links lets move ahead and talk about how to search for affiliate programs to join

This will be covered in our next lesson

To find affiliate programs to Join, you can do a search on Google to find one but this can be a long process that's why I always recommend that people join affiliate Networks first and then find products to promote there.

Another reason why I recommend that people go through affiliate networks to find products to promote is the issue of payments.
You see most merchants (outside Nigeria) will send your payments through Paypal and we all know that in Nigeria, we can all know that you can only send make payments for goods and services and not receive payments.
Although there is a way out, an affiliate network solves this problem as your payment can be sent to bank account in Nigeria.

What Is An Affiliate Network to begin with?

An affiliate network acts as an intermediary between publishers (affiliates) and merchant affiliate programs. It allows website publishers to more easily find and participate in affiliate programs which are suitable for their website (and thus generate income from those programs) and allows websites offering affiliate programs (typically online merchants) to reach a larger audience by promoting their affiliate programs to all of the publishers participating in the affiliate network.

List of Top Affiliate Networks

1. Cj Affiliate Network
2. Rakuten Affiliate Network
3. JVZoo Affiliate Network
4. MaxBounty

After you have sign up you can start searching for products to promote.

In the next lesson, I will talk about the types of contents you can use for promotion

For your contents, you can use any of the four content types below

1. Product review:

One of the simple ways to create content for affiliate marketing is to create review articles. In the article, you can share what you like and don’t like about the product(s) along with your final recommendations.

Giving an honest review about a product(s) you’re promoting builds trust with your audience. It tells them that you’re looking out for their best interests rather than just selling something you claim is absolutely perfect when it is not.

When you share things you don’t like about a product, also share workarounds to minimize them, why it (product) disadvantages is not a priority to you and why it shouldn’t be for them (your readers) and the product(s) benefits that make the drawbacks irrelevant.

2. Case study

Articles review that explains why you love a tool or product are good, but sharing the results you got after using the tool or product is even better.

For instance, say you’re a buyer, which are you most likely to purchase; a product review from your favorite blogger that says this product will help increase your sales or from one that shows how he grew his sales by xx% after using the product with a before and after photo?.

The truth is that most of us will go for the latter. Therefore, if you have had a success story with a product you’d like to promote, share it.

3. Tutorials

Case studies are good but it could be a lot better if you can share the exact steps you took to create something.

If you’re able to design a blog from start to finish within a few minutes, you could share with your audience what tools or products you used to create it.

Add tutorial videos together with your articles to make the content more engaging and don’t also forget to use your links while making this video(s).

4. Product comparison

Instead of creating one blog post or video for different products, you’re promoting, you can give reviews about multiple products at a time.

However, this content strategy works well when you know what products your audience or customers are researching about.

Drive traffic to your affiliate links

There are basically six major ways you can drive traffic to your affiliate links;

Paid Traffic
Organic Social Traffic
Organic Search Traffic
Direct Traffic and
Referral Traffic

But we will concentrate on the four most popular ways of getting traffic

Paid Traffic
Organic Social Traffic and
Organic Search Traffic
Email Marketing

i. Paid Traffic

This is simply buying ads through platforms like Google, Facebook, Twitter, Nairaland, Bing, etc. It is awesome works all the time even for a new site because the moment you start paying, you start getting traffic.

However, they’re two downsides to these;

Firstly, running ads will dig into your profits in fact it is quite normal for advertisers to lose money before they make any if they ever do.

From my experience this can work well if you’re part of a high paying affiliate program, for low commission programs like Jumia and Konga, I wouldn’t bother trying to run ads.

Secondly, when you stop paying for ads your traffic comes to a halt. I always advise people to use ads to drive relevant traffic to their site but if you’re a beginner I wouldn’t you try this right away, the risk will usually be too high for the reward.

ii. Organic Social Traffic

With all social networks, you actually need a good number of followers to get a decent amount of traffic and even if you do have followers, what you will notice is that you get traffic spikes at the beginning and soon after the traffic fades to nothing.
