What motivated my starting this Page?

I feel I should spell it out from the beginning. I am starting this blog as a means of passing the little I know of affiliate marketing to other people out there seeking proper understanding.

I am a poultry farmer; I walked into one of my client's shops yesterday, with the sole aim of buying chicken feeds. She was so excited about her newfound business; as such she was willing to share it all with me. As usual, I gave her all attention.

She has just been introduced to a so-called online business, where all she needs to do is do a deposit of 56,000 nairas and make at least 7,000 Naira monthly without doing anything. The beautiful thing about this model of business is her ability to buy as many slots as she can afford and also to demand her capital back any time she feels she is no longer interested.

Give it to her, this is an online business and she was super excited because she was credited with her interest for the first month. Let me abuse your mind, if you are in my friend's shoes looking for a quick-rich scheme, you are in the wrong thread.

I have been on this journey for some while; I started from freelance writing for almost a year before I found how to build an online business the right way. I am not talking about building a business where you are just throwing products at people but a sustainable and genuine online business.

Let us start by examining a few of the online methods of making money. Mark my word “few”, there are various methods and diverse approaches. But what I always encourage is ensure you are building something sustainable and not spamming people or taking advantage of others.

There are various ways of making money online, this includes

1. Ecommerce
2. Advertisement
3. Surveys
4. Freelancing
5. Affiliate Marketing

I will talk about one of these income sources briefly before I start talking about affiliate marketing and blogging.

Why blogging?

I believe one of the most important tool to running any of this as an online business is owning a blog of your own.

What is eCommerce?

In a lay man’s term, e-commerce is buying and selling using the internet. Let us face it, with the recent happenings online shopping has become much more popular than before. I think that alone tells us that this a good business.

Like any other business, here is what you need to succeed; if you don’t do it the right way then you go nowhere.

Initially, folks were rushing to import stuff from websites in Chine and the USA but believe me it has gone beyond that. Now you have to do your homework very well to make tangible sales and income.

To succeed in eCommerce today below is expect of you.

1. What form of e-commerce do you want to engage in: how do you intend to run your business.
2. Where will you source from
3. How do you intend to market or promote your product and brand name?
What form of e-commerce do you intend to engage in: I remember the first book I bought to learn eCommerce then, all I learned was to buy from Aliexpress, ship to my local village in Makurdi and from their sell to neighbors and colleagues at work.

The business has gone far beyond that, now there are a lot of angles to eCommerce. You must settle down and work out a business model you can use to succeed

Product Sourcing

You can source your product from anywhere; if you are like me, seeking to build something that will last the test of time. Then, you have to be careful and test your suppliers first. To mention a few places you can shop form, they include Aliexpress, Alibaba, 1688.com, dhgate.com and a host of others

I need not be told if you have been quietly following my post its because you want to make money online. I understand but I will be glad we take it gradually and get enough details before we launch into the deep.

Today, I will be opening up on my most trusted model of making money online – Affiliate Marketing.
I will take a look at what it is, how it works, and how to start. In my next writing, I will explain the place of blogging in online business, hopefully, tomorrow or next.

What is Affiliate Marketing?

Let us go by the books first, Wikipedia explains affiliate marketing as a form of marketing based on performance where businesses reward promoters for each visitor or client introduced to their business. Affiliate marketing is an ancient form of marketing that has been in existence for ages.
It is practiced even in our open market system.
A good example is a traditional market; if you walk into the market to buy electronics, you will see several boys calling your attention to products. Many times they are not the owners of the product, all they are doing is directing you to a shop where you can buy what you want. On entering the shop they will sell at the same price the owner will sell to you at times higher. The bottom line is they earn commission depending on the number of sales they make for the shop owners; the same or similar situation applies to us here online.

One beautiful thing I have enjoyed in this business is that I don’t have to invest in buying products before selling them. All I do is create content that drives traffic to a particular product and here I have my cash.
Now that you have a good insight into what affiliate marketing is, How does it work for us in internet business.

Affiliate Marketing – How it Works

To be candid with you, affiliate marketing is much more complex than what happens in Onitsha or Alaba market. There is a lot of technicalities and expertise needed to do well, but the good news is you do not have to be an expert to start making money. You can start from as little as sending SMS or emails to friends.

Like I explained earlier, affiliate marketing is about promoting other people's products.

Product owners are usually referred to as merchants, while the promoter is called the affiliate marketer. Merchants create affiliate programs around their products for you to join, after joining the programs you are given access to a unique link. This link is a code that is personalized to you, you can share this link with friends via any medium of your choice.

You can send it out in forms of text messages, chats, emails, tweets, or even place it in blog articles. It all depends on you and how you best feel you can achieve your job.

When buyers click on your unique link and make purchases depending on the terms of the program, you earn a commission.
Starting Affiliate Marketing

To start affiliate marketing, my first advice is not looking out for where to make money but find a place of interest. What do you enjoy doing best – Niche? I will talk more about a niche in the latter post but for now, take it as a place of interest.
The next is finding products within your niche to the product or finding an affiliate network, let me speak a little grammar.

In case you are new, I will break it down later. Choosing a niche is something I will have to deal with as a topic on its own.

I know a lot of us on this thread are looking out to make money online as I advised initially, we should build a sustainable business it will take time and some effort.

In my next post, I will open up on a survey site and a site you can make little pennies at the comfort of your home. They are legitimate businesses with no risk attached; all you need is your phone and an internet connection.

How to Find a Niche.

In today's post, I will dwell on one critical success factor for every digital marketer. Irrespective of what you do as an online business, call it ecommerce, affiliate marketing etc. Finding the right niche is always a good way to build a brand for your self.

Let us get started

We all appreciate that the internet is wide and fast-growing, as such, learning and mastering everything on the internet is far from impossible. It is outrightly impossible, you will only become a ‘Mr. Jack’ of all trade and master of none. So you must stick to ‘something’ and be good at that ‘something’, this is the layman’s definition of finding a niche.

How then do I define a Niche?

A niche as defined by Shopify is a part of a large unit, that has its uniqueness and identity, making it stand out within the large market. If you take the health sector as an example, this is a common sector and a very great money-making sector. You can break it down to different niches from various perspectives; we can come up with various ailments and take issues like ulcers or fertility as a niche. Good, I point out that this can still be further broken down to smaller niches.

Another good example is the love and relationship niche; this is another money-spinner. We can break it down to as small as singles, divorce, or even segment relationships based on beliefs. When we segment based on belief, you begin to talk of Christian or Islamic relationship these are all niches.

Now the question of how do I find a Niche

Finding a niche is no rocket science and honestly, it is not difficult, follow these simple ways I highlighted below and you will see that it is not difficul[b]t.
1) Your Skill or Passion [/b]

You may look at this as just the usual, but give me some time as we take a look at it. What we are talking about is building a sustainable business, one of the easiest way to avoid failure in anything is doing what you love best. Where do I do best with passion? I am never tired of working with chicken, everybody complains that poultry is tedious but the more I do it the happier I become; this is just me your case may be different

2) Is there a market for my Passion

Passion alone will not put food on your table, check the niche, and see if there is a ready market for your flair. Use Google keyword planner, alongside some keywords that you know, is highly related to your niche. Check the monthly search volume, the competition alongside.
I will be talking about a keyword tool and what keywords are very soon but for now, let me make it simple, keywords are words or phrases that people within your niche are searching for. Let me us poultry for example, ‘day-old birds’ is a keyword, while competition refers to the number of websites in your niche.

3) Narrow it down

You desired niche many times is broad and can still be narrowed down to smaller units, let me still use my poultry as an example, I can narrow it down to the chicken coop. Believe me, even my chicken coop can still be narrowed down to chicken coop doors and accessories. It all depends on you; forums are a good medium to find ideas of how to narrow down your niche

You can use forums related to your niche or Facebook group related to your niche to find ideas. Another way that some marketers go about it is by using the Amazon category to find their way out. My problem with this is that you can get stuck to the amazon affiliate program while there are other better alternatives.

In my initial posting, I have identified how to pick a niche. Next thing is selecting or deciding on which platform you intend to use for your business.

There are various platforms you can decide to use. While some will use videos on places like YouTube, others will stick to text messaging. It is all about your convenience and expertise. But I strongly recommend you start a blog for your niche.

Why a Blog?

A blog is an online real estate. It is a far greater investment than just using WhatsApp or text messages for your business. Another good thing about using a blog is that you can easily integrate it with every other platform. And it is an easier way to promote your business.

I call it an investment, not in terms of money alone but also effort and time. It takes more effort and time.
If you look at Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, mention it. They are all easily integrated with your website. And I must say, setting up a blog is no longer difficult.

You don’t need to learn to code, with a platform like WordPress you can set up your blog within a few minutes.

Talking about platforms, it is good I let you know that there are other platforms like Wix, Joomla. But WordPress is the biggest and offers a lot of opportunities than others. Amidst what you stand to look out for are:
1) The design is easily customizable

2) Access to tools in the form of themes and plugins

3) The platform is easily optimized for mobile devices a lot of the themes are already optimized. (As we go on I will share the theme I use with you).

4) Designs and site display with widgets is friendly

Now I have established why you need a blog and the right platform for a blog. Next is to show you how to start a WordPress website.

WordPress Website

There are two essentials when starting a website, a website name and a hosting plan. A website name is a name you decide to call your website like every child has a name. Also, website hosting is just like providing a house for a child, your new child(website) needs a name and a house. Good enough there are a lot of companies that can help you with this.

Of a truth, there are several of them. But not all of them are good and will give you good services. I know three of them that have been good and very reliable. They are NameCheap, Bluehost, and SiteRubix (powered by the wealthy affiliate.

SiteRubix is my number one recommendation. It is good, reliable and easy to use. In my next post, I will do my best to show you how to buy from at least two of the three hosting companies.
