Covid-19 Church Monitoring: Akwa Ibom Government Commends Churches On Compliance

The Government of Akwa Ibom State has commended churches in the State for the compliance on Government guidelines during church service on Sunday, 7th June 2020.

The Chairman of the Uyo Capital City Monitoring Team, Mr. Enobong Uwah who doubles as the Chairman of the Uyo Capital City Development Authority, alongside the Chairman of CAN in Akwa Ibom State, Rev. Dr. Nduese Ekwere, took journalists and security agents to not fewer than 26 churches in Uyo Capital City to check the rate of compliance to the guidelines of Government in colligation with CAN.

Some of the guidelines stipulate that, the number of worshippers per service should not exceed 200 and the time frame should be 1-2 hours, a rushing water should be made available by all churches, and in the absent of this, hand sanitizers should be used for sanitizing of everyone's palm before entry to church. Some protocols or church workers should be guided and assigned this duty accordingly.

Also, there should be a reasonable distance between congregants and choristers, anyone using microphone in church must ensure he/she has covered a facemask, and the microphones after used should be sanitized, amongst other guidelines.

During the monitoring exercise, it was ascertained that while a greater percentage of churches in Uyo adhered to the guidelines, a minute fraction endangered the lives of their congregants and the State at large by not keeping to the social distancing policy and other guidelines.

Churches like the Christ the King Catholic Church, Wellington Bassey Uyo, Power City International, Nwaniba Road, Church of Christ, Ikot Ekpene road, Uyo, Living Faith Church, Youth Avenue off Oron road, Uyo, amongst others were scored high in compliances to the regulations of CAN/AKSG.

Speaking shortly after the monitoring exercise, the Leader of the Team, Prince Enobong Uwah expressed satisfaction on the compliance by majority of the churches. Maintaining that with this, the people can be rest assured of their safety during church service.

The Chairman frowned at some churches who defaulted to the guidelines of Government, stating that with the strict caution given them by the monitoring team, the State Government would be left with no choice than to swing into disciplinary action against them if found wanting in subsequent times.

The UCCDA Boss also used the opportunity to commend the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Deacon Udom Emmanuel for his sincerity in the fight against the dreaded corona virus disease. He added that the opening of religious activities in the State is a right step in a right direction, stating that with full compliance to the Government guidelines by churches and the people in the State, no life would be made exposed to the virus.

The monitoring exercise is expected to continue on Sunday 13th June, 2020 to ascertain the rate of compliance.

You are the one seeing it as income leakage.

The church in the picture is Winners Chapel. The online giving platform of Winners is more than a decade old. I first used it in 2011 and I am still using it now. Financial giants in the church will not allow the work of God to stop due to lack of finance. It can never happen.
