Why Was Mediatek's X Series Chip Discontinued? by Incredible128: 7:01pm On Jun 13, 2020
I've always had this question in mind, why was d x series discontinued ? I personally think it would have been one of many powerful chips we have today considering the fact that it was a DECA core and hence would be able to perform many heavy tasks without breaking a sweat ; or was there a hidden flaw in d chip? I've searched the internet for an answer but unfortunately, I've not seen one.

28nm process + 10 cores was a recipe for overheating so they counted their losses and moved on with the P series. Not sure though.

It could also be because they wanted to streamline their product offerings. For example Mediatek currently has 2 major SoC series, Dimensity and Helio

The Dimensity are top shelf mid range SoCs whilst the Helio series is still segregated by alphabet classes.

G series
P series
A series

Given that they're making strides with the Dimensity series in 5G markets, the Helio A series and P series might soon be scrapped off their lineup as they offer bottom barrel performance like they were intended to whilst the G series currently offer good entry level performance (G70) and amazing midrange performance (G90T, G85).

The Helio X series had serious overheating issues, also despite having decacore CPUs and performing well in synthetic benchmarks - real world performance wasn't that exciting. More cores doesn't always equate to better performance.

You nailed it.

Im suspecting mediatek may likely discontinue P series and focus solely on Dimensity 1000 series and 800 series while G series will make up 4G lower midrange while Dimensity 1000 will go for upper midrange 5G and Dimensity 800 will fill in for lower midrange 5G.

What ever step qualcom takes has profond influence on what the direction madiatek will face.

Helio x series overheating was on another level. I used the leeco le1s with the helio x10 chipset. That Phone can boil water and battery was not that strong i guess its because the chipset was not power efficient (28nm)

as I see some helio mobile doesn't overheat, Mediateck CPU also powerful but they have a heating issue and forget about overclocking they should find out another cooling method. I have not seen overheating in Lenovo k10 note

very true. I guess it's the processor that matters
