Are You Poor? by IncredibleWrite: 4:00pm On Jun 14, 2020
Sometime early last year, one of my female friends called me "poor" because I couldn't meet her financial demand. I laughed it off because I know I wasn't poor. If I could remember clearly the UN definition of poverty, it is simply a situation when one lacks education, shelter and the basic necessities of life. So if you have a roof above your head, you have an education, atleast you aren't poor. Your poverty may perhaps be relative not absolute. You have everything you need to succeed.

There are certain things that differentiates the poor from the rich viz:

1. The information at their disposal. Knowledge is truly power if you can use it effectively. So if you have access to basic and not even tertiary education, you have access to knowledge. How hungry are you for knowledge? Sometimes people miss opportunities because of their lack of access to those information. That is why you need to continually seek knowledge and any avenue that enhances such.

Some feel reluctant to use their money to buy ebooks or pay for trainings. Well, I was there before until I realized that the information at your disposal can change your life and that of the people around you. Most knowledge I share with my group on WhatsApp are from ebooks I bought, paid trainings, YouTube videos, conferences and the internet as a whole.

Just last night, I purchased 4 videos on e-commerce, web development, digital marketing and mini importation respectively. I would be using them to teach those that will enroll for my business class which is forthcoming. In a nutshell? Seek knowledge and information, you won't regret it.

2. Their mindset: Give a rich man and a poor man 5k each. The rich man would be thinking of how to double that amount. The poor man would remember he has torn clothes to mend, that he needs to buy new shoes to look good, he need to....and the list is endless. What differentiates the poor from the rich is that the rich invests in assets, the poor? In liabilities! Your mindset would take you far in life. Take a cursory from "The richest man in Babylon"

3. Limitations: This could still be a subset of mindset. The poor always gives excuses as limitations. "I am from a poor background, I don't have a University education, I don't have a laptop, I don't have a good phone yet" etc. The rich would say, "Well, I don't have a laptop but I'm looking forward to getting one soon, I can be managing my phone" etc...Someone with a rich mindset is always hopeful.

So what is your excuse? When I started Copywriting I was using a phone with a broken screen. You can only see through half of the screen. Some mocked me, but guess what? It didn't deter me - shamelessness.

I repeat, what is your excuse again?
