Restructuring: A visit to Barkin Ladi/Barkin Kogi,Jos, plateau state.

Necessity they say is the mother of all inventions. This piece is borne out of the eyesore during a visit to Barkin Ladi. The in thing is adaptation for a lot of individuals as the earth revolves & situations in the world evolves. But in the course of adaptation & evolution, one needs to realize the price paid to get to this point & take a cursory look forward. Otherwise, bigger price will be paid in this technology age to maintain to what we've bargain & already paid for, without getting the required results,God forbid.

A journey to Barkin Ladi ignite me to write on the need to have a conservative approach to development even as technology driven economy is the order of the day. Let's imagine how much the federal government of old borrowed to building the moribund rail station shown below at Barkin Kogi,Jos. If we fail to restructure our mind as individuals, organizations,& governments the present rails being constructed may go same way of the old without continuity & maintenances

I don't want to be seen as myopic in my reasoning,so I will mention our attitudes of putting the cart before the horse in our approach to development. The developed countries didn't develop through rocket science. It's through gradual research, findings,& consistency of visions & efforts.A common sense thinking will finish ajaokuta steel complex before embarking on borrowing to finance the rail projects (mind you I'm not against the rail projects of the government of the day in entity)But putting the cart before the horse is the best in this age.If the steel complex is functional, some of the materials can be source locally including manpower, because Nigerian experts will be engaged. Instead of going out to import the technology & materials at higher cost. Engaging Nigeria youths will improve our productivity & GDP as a nation.A lot of cost will be saved, unemployment rate will reduce & development will be faster as obtained in the developed countries if juxtaposed.

Furthermore, paying heavily for expartraits to fix Nigeria is not the best option. What's the need for education?More opportunities should abound for Nigerian experts & engineers to encourage them. Their certificates is not just for exposition. I remembered vividly Nigeria and India was on same page as developing countries, but how far have we improve our technology & advancement compare to India?
It's high time we stop playing politics with our national life & be more proactive & productive.A governor will execute roads, bridges,& administrative projects & people will be singing their praises, when they can do greater things with tax payers money by building more industries, factories, mechanized farms, technology hubs etc. But politicians builds their political dynasty after scoring cheap points on road projects & the likes with inflated figures. The cost & energy expended on arsons during elections can be guided towards developing & harnessing a blue prints on the way forward.when the citizens are integrated through industrialization, development will come naturally. Because people will pay tax for government to engage in greater visions,Burj Dubai an example.the vision cost the government a lot,but in the end Dubai is at the center of tourism world over. It's no longer crude oil days. Let's change from waiting for FG allocations to awardi inflated contracts with a lot going to private account. Let's go back to basics, restructure our mindset, ego, status quo, & have visions towards coming out of the doldrums to a greater individuals, organizations & governments.
