How bad is it for a Christian to consult an astrologer to know more about his past, present and future life?? is there any scriptural backing that frowns at such a thing?

I would think just as bad as a Christian consulting a dream reader, or a prophet, or any sort of psychic for signs or direction in life.

Everyone who is born again has the Spirit of God/Christ living inside of him or her. The Spirit of God is not there as a sign, No! He is the Spirit that lives inside of Jesus Christ Himself; He is a guide, a counselor, a Helper, a teacher, He is to lead us to all truth and gives us all that is necessary to aid us in our walk and life in Christ. It boggles the mind that anyone who has the Spirit of the Living God inside of him/her would then seek answers externally for internal questions, ignoring the guidance of the Spirit Himself. If anything, it is a clear indicator that such a person does not indeed know God.

Now, please perish the thought that Jesus Christ would send anyone to a dream interpreter, a prophet, an astrologer, or even a psychic. Jesus had dreams, and He did seek answers to questions but from His example, we all know where He went to find those and should try to cultivate the habit of acting as Jesus did.

For those who are not aware, it was the unbelievers who sought out men-of-god/seers/prophets in the time of the old Covenant to get their dreams interpreted. Believers never needed such things.

In the book of Acts, Paul rejected the warnings and directions of many then prophets so he could focus on doing what God had set for him, Paul, to do. If Paul had listened to even one of the many "prophets" on his way to Rome, he probably would have turned back, and then what? We may never have known or heard of him. But ignoring their words, he matched on to Rome, and met his end there but to the glory of God.

Seeking out a medium for direction is akin to pagan worship and as you know you cannot worship two masters... God won't even abide by that because He hates idolatry.

Isaiah 47
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
¹³ Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.

¹⁴ Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.

God forbids astrology. It's consultation with demons.
