Musings on Evangelism

Change is something that is really difficult for humans. Once settled in a comfort zone, many of us will find it difficult to move to a new zone. Most times, we may even fight the agents of change fiercely because of the perceived security we get in our current location.

We are afraid to change sometimes because it may result in a change of established relationships.
We dread change because it may potentially open us to possibility of failure.
Even some people fear change because it opens them to possibility of success which would mean more work in order to sustain the flow of success.

Change is dreaded and that is why we mostly shy away from evangelism these days.
When news of possible relocation to new church branches filter around, we pray desperately for the pastor to have amnesia and omit our names from 'the list'.
Then we heave a blissful sigh when the list is called out and our names aren't there.

When we hear a clarion call for a missionary outreach, we immediately remember the scripture that "your life is a living epistle" and use it to say that our lives, not words, can preach to people.

When we hear a call for intersessional prayers, we suddenly feel our legs turn into lead and remember the most mundane tasks that are on our calender.

We are being admonished to change for the better today.
We are being told to jump on the heavenly bus of spontenity and responsiveness to the call of evangelism.
When we recieve that nudge to preach in the bus, stifle your fears of shyness and drop that word. Who knows? There may be someone about to commit suicide on that bus.
When we are told to go, groan, or give to the work of evangelism, let us take the bold step and GO, instead of the regular giving we are accustomed to.
When we hear rumors of impeding change in the church and potential transfers to new territories, let us polish our boots and get ready to march on to win new kingdoms with Christ our king.
For God doesn't only reside in big city cathedrals- His move is also raw within village tents

This is a clarion call to everyone today.
Launch into that new mission that God has called you into.
Call together your fellow prayer team and prayerfully take charge of the new ideas that God has laid within you.

Take up that mantle of authority and strike at the evil sea that has been blocking the progress of your family.
Take up that trumpet of praise and sing till the walls of stagnation fall around you like Jericho's

Take up your bible and go around- spreading the iwaasu (preaching) of sin, repentance, and redemption
Take up your pitcher of love and go around- spreading the water of love, peace, and favour.
Take up the master's lamp and cutlass and go forward- clearing the paths of wickedness and bringing the light that will liberate people from bondage.

I pray God helps us to do these in Jesus name.
