France telecommunications giant Orange is set to enter Nigeria and South Africa, according to media reports. Reports say they plan to enter ''within few months''.

Hmm... I smell a rat, a big one... Something is not right with this move! I reckon their South Africa entry is just audio cover, their real target is Nigeria. ... And I have few questions:

(i) In this global Coronavirus brouhala that would not end soon, many companies are focused on adjusting their operating procedures to meet guidelines... but only Orange is announcing expansion in a pandemic time

(ii) Many companies are counting their losses amid the lockdowns and economic uncertainty, yet Orange is announcing expansion ...

(iii) What did they see in Nigeria that they did not see long ago ? why the sudden interest in Nigeria ?

(iv) Why are they in a hurry to enter Nigeria ''within few months'' ? Who really initiated this move to enter Nigeria so fast ?

Me, I smell a big rat.... Why?

Because France is Not a friend of Nigeria. France sees Nigeria as an obstacle to its neo-colonization of Africa and they have been working to weaken Nigeria's influence. This is already in the public domain. .... France is a masquerade and we would be making a big mistake if we allow our enemies operate telecomms services in our country.

Telecommunications operations is highly skilled, needing..... hardware engineers, software engineers, computer programmers, signals experts, communications experts, digital experts, internet protocol experts, voice and data management experts, encryption experts, cloud computing and storage experts, ... etc. These French 'experts' would be ''working in Nigeria'' and more would be coming under the guises of ''technical repairs'' or ''installation'', whilst infiltrating the whole communications and signals landscape in Nigeria. Orange would have a database of Nigerian subscribers and their personal information... undecided And Imported French equipment would be rigged and placed on telecomms masts to perform ''side tasks''. Such a big danger ahead..... embarassed embarassed embarassed embarassed

Note also, telecomms mast infrastructure are spread across all states of the federation, giving French 'experts' an extensive reach of the Nigerian state. Orange, through their data services, would also obtain indepth knowledge of Nigeria's internet infrastructure, subsea lines and communications/signals systems That is their motive of sending Orange to Nigeria cool. Remember that USA has refused Huawei telecomms licences over spying allegations and national security considerations. The same suspicions ring throughout Europe regarding allowing your adversaries operate telecomms infrastructure on your soil. The national security implications are huge.... angry

France's survival depends on milking African countries and Nigeria remains a threat. They need more 'indepth knowledge' of Nigeria. They need the presence of ''expert spies'' across the nooks and crannies of Nigeria. The best way is through a 'telecomms company'.

As much as I know, there can be no justification for their sudden interest in Nigeria, to enter within few months, in the midst of a pandemic, A masquerade like France to be allowed to operate telecomms/digital services in Nigeria will be our fatal mistake.

Nigeria has sufficient telecomms companies, we do not need more. The Federal Govt and the NCC must NOT grant them any licence. Never !!!

I wish those in charge will read this, but it's a pity, they know our weaknesses, CORRUPTION. Enough money on the table will subvert all necessary checks and hope we won't pay the price nor regret is we allow spys into our telecom sector.

I’ll still be the first to buy their line, are we not suffering all these things already ? Was a journalist not kidnapped in ph and moved to kaduna to face trials under the whims of a dictatorial midget just a few months ago and wasn’t his phone used to pinpoint his location ? The spying you’re talking about is already being done by our own junta here and it’s a fact, we’re not being protected in any way by our junta here and it’s also a fact. Besides, if the French don’t come, the Chinese whom this government have sold our destinies to via mindless loans would do the same thing and that’s if they’re not already doing so. Please let me enjoy my future world class telecom operator in peace cool

Unnecessary paranoia. France can get any classified info they need on Nigeria at the speed of light, they don't need to operate a telecommunication company to do so.

Stop making it appear like we are a military power because we are not. We just happen to be a little more influential than other African countries due to our large population and resources.

France can cripple Nigeria within 24 hours if there is any hostility between us just the same way they cleaned out Ivory Coast's air Force during the Gbagbo imbroglio. So better know your mate, we are no match against France.

So assuming they can cripple Naij, we should facilitate it... By exposing our inner security. So, you make it easy for your enemy abi...

So much illiterates on nairaland . Smh .

Hope, the Leadership of Nigeria will think in your direction, because to be fair most of us on this platform think better than Nigeria's current crop of leaders.

Stop fantasizing out of ignorance. There is no inner security to breach to start with. Your country is as porous as any banana republic can be. I can get classified info from inner government circles if I dig deep enough and of course bribe one or two people.

Why would France go the length of investment millions of dollars in Nigeria if their primary aim is to get information about Nigeria when they can still get same information by spending very little money and time?

You're living in Lala land and obviously ignorant of how Nigeria is. Don't be the proverbial butterfly that thinks it's a bird.

Meanwhile, you need education since you don't even know the meaning of illiterate.
