It is no longer news that Obaseki did not scale the screening to contest in APC primaries in Edo state.

It is also no longer news that Obaseki has resigned his membership of APC but is yet to declare for another political party.

My confusion and question is, if a governor must have constitutional powers, he must be a member of a political party. But within the last 12 hours at least, Obaseki is not a member of any political party.

What then happens to the vacuum so created by his resignation from APC and his lack of membership of any other political party?

Can Obaseki still take official decisions in his capacity as governor after he resigned from the party that gave him the mandate and is yet to join another.

Nature abhors vacuum, pls let the lawyers in the house and political analysts shed more light on this.

He is governor not acting governor. The office of governor is an instrument of state and not that of the political party. The party is just a platform.

He's party-less for now and he doesn't really need a party for him to remain in power.
He only needs a party when its time to be elected.

Can there be a governor for any state without the vehicular assistance of a political party? When I say acting, I meant the act of being a sitting governor.

The electoral law say one can leave a party if there is crisis, he announced his departure a day ago and is in consultation with other parties, by law he hasn't done anything wrong yet.
We had similar case with Tambuwal as speaker during gej admin.

Can he therefore stay indefinitely without a party platform? That is like building something on nothing.

I didn't mean acting in the capacity you are taking it. He's definitely not an acting governor as he took oath of office.

Obaseki resigned after meeting with buhari, even Oshiomole himself has called for calm as he claims it would not affect the fortune of the party.
It means his resignation was accepted my dear succubus.

He's coming to PDP his natural habitat and he'd win.

Forget the little Okpella man, the political dynasty he built in Edo was built on sand.

we don't need oniru to know, nigerians already know.
Remember the cases of 5 governors who left pdp then? They tendered a communique after they staged a walkout.

Start with the electoral law. It's the most important piece of legislation regarding our elections. Then the Constitution.
