ECOWAS Endorses Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala For WTO Job by References: 2:00pm On Jun 22, 2020
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has endorsed Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for the position of director-general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

This is contained in a document signed by Mahamadou Issoufou, ECOWAS president, and seen by TheCable on Friday.

On June 4, President Muhammadu Buhari approved the nomination of Okonjo-Iweala, former coordinating minister for the economy, for the top WTO job.

ECOWAS called on other African countries to back Okonjo-Iweala, who Issoufou referred to as a “fearless reformer”.

Egypt wanted to use AU as an opposing force against NOI.
I don’t see AU pooling it’s heart against a candidate, looking at the situation of things.

ECOWAS has endorsed NOI

I expect Southern African subcontinent to support NOI cos of the affection South Africa has for her, being an economic member of the nation.
South Africa wields the highest power there in that region

North Africa can go with their Egyptian candidate, with the exception of Morocco anyway.

I don’t know about the East and Central Africans anyway

I have a feeling NOI won't lose sleep if this appointment falls through, she has enough on her plate already, that job is one more stress to be added to her life.
