The state of my nation.
Consistent Consternation.
Overhead dark clouds loom
Alcove and crevice, all men brood.
We're in a state of trepidation.
A state of not being allowed in public/ gatherings.
A state of hypothesising whose life drops apart first.

We're in a state of decadency
Lovely ladies getting naked for a dime.
Young men majoring in cyber crimes.
Men and women foregoing their principles.
For the love of money
For the sake of their bellies.

We're in a state of denial
It's not fair or right
We need to fight.
Minimum wage can barely feed a bird.
Hunger pangs gnaws
We can barely concentrate on anything else.

We're in a state of butchery
Lives being lost for no cause
Herdsmen harassing the masses.
In another location,
Someone waits outside a local church.
Watches everyone knee in prayer.
Gun in their left hand, bomb in right hand.
Rape, Violence here and there
Evils are perpetrated.
We are dazed.

Robbers practice in broad daylight.
Valuables forcefully collected
Money passes through hands.
Evil grins plastered on faces.
Victims left with no option
Completely incapacitated.
Hoodlums ransack our communities.
Government is unconcerned.
We're left to our own.
To perish or to survive.
We're in a state of afterthink.
A journey of four years
Imitate a thousand years.
A choice of our own freewill.
We're still after a fulfilment of the same promises.
Now, we eat the sour meal.

All options having been exhausted,
In our grief,
We turn to our spiritual leaders
Seeking a solution
Needing a change.
"sow a seed, sow a seed
Give the Lord ALL you have
All of your heart.
He will prosper you,
He will keep you safe
And, He will never part"
The preacher cried.
So we made haste.
Working day and night
Selling off our possessions.
Giving the Lord our ALL.
BUT, alas!
It was a farce.
We have been exploited.
Yet again!

Now, we sit
We close our eyes to the pain
To the violence
Wishing it goes away
With a nod.
Darkest nights birth bright morns.
This is a phase, I know.
I pray it passes.
Hope on,
We shall overcome.
