Says he’s the Leader of APC and can do whatever

The Niger Delta Minister, Sen. Godswill Akpabio has blown hot on the recent suspension of the former National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Youth Caucus, Iniobong John.


Akpabio who expressed bitterness at the lay-off of the ex-Caucus Head through his Aide on Media, Anietie Ekong, noted that he chose Iniobong John to work for him and has no regret doing so.

He gave is reason as being that the suspended Caucus Head was diligent, committed and zealous in tasks he assigns him, without fear or sentiments of other members of the Party or public.


While promising to deal with anyone who challenges John, Akpabio revealed that he gave the whooping sum of N15Million naira to the suspended Caucus Chairman for distribution among other members of the Caucus last month, and got a letter of appreciation from them on return.

“Iniobong confirmed that all members of the Caucus received the money and sent their appreciation to the Minister through a letter. What then are they agitating?”, he wondered.

“I am the political leader of APC in Akwa Ibom and I can do anything I like or choose whoever I wish to work with”, he expressed.

“Whoever stands against Iniobong stands against me and I’ll deal ruthlessly with such”, he fumed.

Speaking on his authority in the Party, the Niger Delta Minister revealed that “Nsima Ekere and Udoedehe cannot come and control the Party” he was mandated to overseer. “I will make sure that none of them has any power over the Party.

Meanwhile, series of allegations have continued to trail the former Youth Caucus Chairman who was suspended on Thursday, June 25 for reasons of impersonation, gross abuse of office, financial malpractice and maladministration. 

A member of the State Executive Council who alleged that “the image and integrity of the Caucus has been dragged in the mud over several allegations” against John stated that the suspended Chairman “used the name and office of the APC NATIONAL YOUTH CAUCUS, AKWA IBOM STATE CHAPTER to enter into unwholesome alliances with notable members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State and solicited and obtained huge sums of money under the guise of "imminent defection to the PDP"
He added that John “collected the sum of N20m from a notable Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) to betray the Candidate of the Party at the Governorship Tribunal while claiming that notable principal officers of the Caucus were about to defect with him. 

He also wrote that John had “collected the sum of N500, 000 00 from a sitting Member of the House of Reps from Uyo Senatorial District” as well as from Media aides of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State to subvert the Caucus hence, taking over of the job of the State Publicity Secretary/Director of Media as a bargaining tool. 

He added that the Youth Leader has not “convened any meeting of the Caucus since January 2019,” but has rather “been attending nocturnal meetings with PDP members and has serially usurped the functions and office of the Publicity Secretary/Director of Media of the Caucus by making serial and consistent releases without the knowledge, input, deliberation or approval of the State Executive Committee.
