Fasting And Prayer, When Does It End? by chukxy44(m): 9:09pm On Feb 02, 2011
I would like to know if there is any stated (cultural, regious, traditional or conceptual) duration for fasting to start and end. growing up, most fast times the belive is that it is either 12 noon, 3:00pm or 6:00pm, should one brak for the day when was is hungry (maybe 5pm) or is 6am - 6pm the justified fasting duration?

You have it right on what most people do! When I decide to fast for any particular reason, I decide the terms - Water only, fruit only, no meat, no s+e%x, hours, days, breaking time, prayer frequency etc, afterall it's between me and God. When the Holy spirit says to fast, I go on his terms!

This is not the best place to get that information cos a lot of OP will be said
Let it be between you and your pastor, ie if you have one and believe in him
Or better still between you and God

So when you are not fasting everything goes at all time?
Fasting means abstaining from everything going down to the throat. That includes water, or sweets, juice of chewing gum, etc and anything of pleasure from external source. And you cant even accumulate saliva in the mouth so that you swallow it in large quantity, trying to quench your thirst. And in Summer time, fasting should begin before dawn to dusk. Same in the winter, if you really want to fast.

Dont just choose fruit and eat that all day and say you are fasting. Fasting is by definition going without, intentionally depriving oneself.

[b]Bros mi,  grin! When I 'fast', I 'fast' to the Lord; when I 'eat', I 'eat' to the Lord!  grin For some people, fasting is skipping breakfast and for others, it is not eating ANYTHING THROUGHOUT the day, or THROUGHOUT THE WEEK!

Fasting is not only about 'not eating, not drinking or not having 'jiggyjiggy':

ISAIAH 58 5- 6
5 Is such a fast as yours what I have chosen, a day for a man to humble himself with sorrow in his soul? [Is true fasting merely mechanical?] Is it only to bow down his head like a bulrush and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him [to indicate a condition of heart that he does not have]? Will you call this a fast and an acceptable day to the Lord?

6[Rather] is not this the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every [enslaving] yoke?

What is the purpose of your fast? Intercession for others, repentance on your part, or just thanksgiving? What did God tell you to do? IT IS BETWEEN YOU AND GOD, not following the fashion of WHAT OTHERS DO!

Romans 14:1-8 (Amplified Bible)

1AS FOR the man who is a weak believer, welcome him [into your fellowship], but not to criticize his opinions or pass judgment on his scruples or perplex him with discussions.
2One [man's faith permits him to] believe he may eat anything, while a weaker one [limits his] eating to vegetables.

3Let not him who eats look down on or despise him who abstains, and let not him who abstains criticize and pass judgment on him who eats; for God has accepted and welcomed him.

4Who are you to pass judgment on and censure another's household servant? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he shall stand and be upheld, for the Master (the Lord) is mighty to support him and make him stand.

5One man esteems one day as better than another, while another man esteems all days alike [sacred]. Let everyone be fully convinced (satisfied) in his own mind.

6He who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. He also who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God; while he who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God.

7None of us lives to himself [but to the Lord], and none of us dies to himself [but to the Lord, for]

8If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or we die, we belong to the Lord.

So sweetnecta, If my faith in Christ 'eats pork' and your faith in Christ 'is nopuqeater', deede lo se, because we ARE NOT SAVED BY 'EATING OR NOT EATING PORK; FASTING TILL 12PM OR FASTING TILL 9PM, BUT BY GRACE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD!  grin[/b]

^^^^^^^Allahu Akbar Kabira.

Fasting is commanded on believers and the process of fasting is also give, which include the hours of fasting.

Lets take the case of Moses for our illustration. I'm sure you know Moses fasted?

His fasting was a direct command from his Lord, the Creator of all creations.

I'm also sure that you know Jesus son of Mary followed the footsteps of Moses, including in that the footsteps is his copying Moses fasting; at least the methodology of it all, which included abstaining from getting anything down his throat, and the period of fasting; from what time to what time.

If truly you follow Jesus, you will observe what he observed of what Moses and all those before him. You will also observe his commandment of the one that he said shall come after him.

Jesus consciously did not eat pork because it was a commandment from his Lord, which must be obeyed in normal circumstances.

You my sister decided to abolish it without hearing it from Jesus. This is wrong.

You need to go back to Jesus. Follow his footstep. You will see that it will be the footstep[s] of Moses and others before. It will definitely lead you to the footstep of the one that ended all Mesengership and Prophethood (AS).

I wish you a happy trail. My sister seek your Creator with all sincerity of your heart. You will surely find Him, alone in all His Uniqueness.
