This is FANTSTIC news! but there is more to come because I am sure many of the Governors sworn in on may 29th will be kicked out by the election tribunals, starting probably with Edo State. This Supreme court ruling mens all candidates who are successful at the April elections tribunal and subsequently sworn in will not leave office until 4 yours after the swearing in date. Therefore, the swearing dates in 2011 will be staggered, i.e. governors installed by the election tribunals will not leave office on May 29th and that date will loose it's significance as the official handover date.

I think this problem can be solved if the tribunal is given a time constraint.

Tlops, it is too late to prevent this scenario i.e. stagerred swearing in of Governors in 2011, even if the tribunal is given a time constriaint now because a 4 years tenure that begins anytime from now will end at the earliest 15th June 2011. Also, it is unlikely all tribunals will reach judgements the same day and all affected states swear in the new governors on the same day, so it is inevitable that they will be staggered. I don't think it is a bad thing though.

what i mean is if every tribunal ends july.then the new govs can forfeit some months as will de clared in the judgement. its what I think, ,

;DTODAY, I WOKE UP FEELING LIKE I COULD TOUCH THE SKY!!!!!!

undecidedOn a sober note though, I hope Peter Obi is not as politically naive as he was earlier on, he still has an opposition state assembly to deal with.

When I got this news yesterday I was happy for justice, i wish it can go round to justify the justice and disgrace the unjust.

And on a second thought I wondered how Andy Uba's wife will take this new development after sowing dresses and importing jewelries for show as the First Lady of the state grin if na me I for cry ooooooooooo

My brothers staggered elections and swearing in is a welcomed development. It will encourage grass-root politics not the current scenario where someone sits in Abuja and pontificates who governs and who wont.

The will of the people in our politics is about to be restored.

What the hell should we care if the dates of gov vacation in office is scattered so far as justice was done and seemed to be done as the anambra case suggests. In USA governors have different dates of election from presidential. So why shld we care, seriously?

I bet OBJ will ask Yar'adua to find 'something' for his houseboy to do in Abuja, possibly a minesterial role.

More importantly, and to complete this lovely fairy tale, Yar'adua will reply 'walahi ni bana so wanan dan iska ba' meaning 'I want nothing to do with this rascal'.

Long live justice and fairplay in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Re: Supreme Court Reinstates Peter Obi. Andy Uba To Quit Office by debosky(m): 11:09pm On Jun 15, 2007
I agree to an extent Militia, it isn't fishy as such, but the andy uba goons still can cause havoc in a number of ways

1 - refusing to work with Obi, thus frustrating his work

2 - impeaching him on some ridiculous offences and letting Dame Virgy (not too loyal) take over

3- impeach them both (Ekiti stylee) and then the speaker becomes Ag Governor and another election is called within 30 days

vigilance is still needed, sure he has won a victory now, but the vultures are by no means gone, the battle for the soul of Anambra continues

That was barely one year in office. He was still fighting many political battles with PDP heavy weights with orders from Abuja. It was actually after this judgement that he finally confined them to political dustbin and settled for work

He also lost at tribunal and was mocked by PDP before eventually winning at last.
