Banks are suppose to provide their own security, State funds shouldn't be used by private companies.

Police work for the govt to enforce order, and since banks are considered "private" organisations (in this case), they should get private security.

So since you are a "private" citizen(in this case), you should also get private security? undecided

Ideally the Police should not be manning Bank security but this is Nigeria. The private security companies in Nigeria are ill equipped for these boys.

Which Bank Robbery so far have the Police been able to abort, have their been any meaningful arrest, robbers apprehended?
We clamor for change and when it comes . . . we complain. There is no harm in trying the private security companies,IMO,most establishments have been using it for years now and the results are OK.
This myth that private security companies only carry tear-gas and baton is so freaking hilarious!

Just SHUT UP Shoster and stop writing nonsense. How has stationing police in banks stopped determined armed robbers. It just makes them sitting ducks as a matter of fact. Any statistics on cops killed and injured by bandits and armed robberies foiled.

You don't even have any idea of the preventive and reactive strategies these private security companies would use to foil robberies and you are already whining.

No you pack it in. The banks use the police because they are the only option. Do you mean to say that the Nigerian security firms are that sophisticated but the banks would rather use the Police??  I would like to know what '' preventive and reactive strategies these private security companies'' use. Please do educate us Mr Security expert.

Do policemen assigned to banks get paid by the banks or by the police force?

You've been watching too many Hollywood flicks, grin grin

First of in civilized countries like the US cops don't guard banks, although a patrol officer will patrol a bank if it's in his or her  precinct.

Secondly if there is a bank robbery, S.W.A.T only shows up if the robbery is still in progress or if there is a hostage situation.

The first to show up in a bank robbery is your patrol cops, investigators and the FBI.

Our biggest problem in Nigeria is we deal in cash too much, we need to start using more of debit and credit cards like developed countries then all these robberies like reduce drastically.
it seems like u haven't been anywhere else except USA, well i have a traveled a bit and i have seen uniformed officers in banks, whether private guards or actual police men i wouldnt knw, but the truth is a enforcement officer must be there to enforce law and order in case things get out of hand( from customers). My reference to S.W.A.T was to show u the difference between them and regular officers, guns and training. your regular officers are limited in the kind of gun fight the can engage in so in comes S.W.A.T. hw do u expect a mopol who has a canister of tear gas, and 2 magazines to face robbers who come in with machine guns and expect the mopol to hang around. so banks can hire private guards to secure there banks just to provide law enforcement in within and outside the bankin hall, as for the weapons they are allowed to carry, this is another matter, but i can assure you, no matter how many guards hang around the bank, determined robbers will likely get in, unless help comes from the police, which is where a unit well trained to engage in gun duels come in and not the regular mopol.thats y more officers are killed each year than robbers in naija.
i agree with the bolded statement, but it will take a lot of time for that to happen becos of the mentality of the common nigerian.

Good for them bastards, they should be able to provide their own security.
