This is where you people get it all wrong, There is a difference between entertainments and the real deal. Okocha was more of an entertainer. If you like dribble Kahn 20 times just because you wan score 1 goal, you no go still get recognition pass a lazy player wey score 20 tapins.
we all know okocha for his entertainment football, but you can never take away the fact that he was a great footballer. In my own opinion, which I believe its the view of most football fans.okocha deserved that award in 1998.
Mustapha Hadji did nothing spectacular in his club side.from 1997 to 1999,he was playing for deportivo. He had 31 appearances with only 2 goals. Both Nigeria and morocco crashed out in the group stage of 1998 world cup.
Okocha played for fenerbahce from 1996 to 1998.Had 62 appearance and 34 goals to show. His performance paved way for his move to PSG in 1998.its obvious, Okocha was the better player at that point in time.

This is another one. You are very wrong in your analysis. You said no big club wanted Okocha, lol....... you forgot that the same PSG that Neymar you mentioned played for actually bought Okocha for a record fee that was difficult to erase for many years in the world of football. Abeg, Okocha is a legend. Let's remove sentiments.... even your Ronaldinho admitted learning a few things from Okocha!!

You're just being too sentimental.

You call psg a big club at 1998 when they signed him? Lol the biggest clubs in France then were even Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Lille and to some extent Monaco. PSG was nothing as at that time hit until 2008/09 when Arab money bags took over. He was the most expensive African player as at then doesn't mean he was better than his counterparts. Nicolas Pepe is currently the most expensive African player now doesn't make him a better player than mane , Salah, ziyech or mahrez. Okacha was the most expensive in 1998 didn't make him a better player than Mustapha Hadji in 1998 or George weah in 1997.

We are much concerned about how much goals and trophies you get not dribbles, in the end it will win you nothing.

Who dribbles epp?

Even you that cant kick an orange is also talking....

The satisfaction of dribbling oliver khan and making a mess of his defence is my greatest joy. Plus a good midfielder holds onto the ball sometimes to either slow the pace or allow his men get into space.

Why am i even talking, you cant kick an orange on the street sef.

You can abuse me ooo...it is Friday and I don't mind.

I agree that of 1998 was the nearest for JJ ( not those of 2003/2004 when he was competing with Eto’o.

That said, he lost that of 1998 by only 2 votes or so. So it was close enough but ultimately the 2 voters that made the difference believed Hadji did better. Fair enough.

Ronaldinho was more serious and ambitious than okocha. Dem no dey the same league abeg. If okocha wanted to flourish, he would have been better off in a circus not a football pitch.
I disagree with u sir 100%. Ronaldinho also took football for fun. Just that he went to big team and shew his talent, unlike okocha. If gaucho don't signed for barca, and doesn't win any awards, u guys will say his not serious. That's the truth sir.

My brother, you know the hatred the then CAF boss had for Nigeria was unprecedented. As at then Hadji's career was almost finished. In fact he was mostly used as a substitute both at the national level and club side. How he won that award it's still a mystery.

u funny sir. I told u that is because of too much likeness of money that made okocha not to play for big team. Or don't u know when united want to sign him then, that he requested for number 10 jersey that he knew is not possible for him to get. He intentionally did it because he want to go on free transfer to small club and collect his sign on fee by himself.

first thing first, how old are you?
because if you watch okocha, during 1996 Olympics, okocha's effort was monometal in Nigeria winning that competition, during the 1993 German season, his goal was awarded the best goal of the season.
in 1998, his move to PSG made him the most expensive player in Africa as at then.
when he came to England and played for Bolton Wanderers FC, he was made the captain of team because of his contribution to move the club away from relegation zone.
in 1994, he was among the super eagles players that won the African cup of Nations.
I'm not sure, if you watched JJ, cus he was called JJ for a reason, u think if he was from Europe, u would written those things against him?
