Mozilla is getting ready to ready to reboot its Android browser efforts with the debut of a new Firefox, with the company expected the replace the old version with its modern successor next month.

More specifically, the current version of the browser on Android is Firefox 68, which was officially released in July 2019. Since then, the application has received a series of updates, but they brought nothing more than bug fixes and smaller improvements here and there.

But at the same time, Mozilla has also been working on a new Firefox version for Android. Referred to as Fenix, this new browser will go live as just Firefox, and by the looks of things, it will replace the old version on Google’s mobile operating system in the coming days.

According to a report, Firefox 68.11 is now available for download on Android as the final update for the old version of the browser.

Needless to say, the new Firefox for Android comes with a series of improvements, including the Enhanced Tracking Protection, Collections, a dark mode, and some other goodies borrowed from the desktop browser.

Mozilla originally announced that the migration to the new browser would happen in late July through August 2020, and content like open tabs, history, bookmarks, top sites, cookies, and partial browser cache, the Firefox account, and some add-ons will be moved to the new Firefox.

“We recommend upgrading to the new browser as the old browser will stop receiving updates in 2020. The new browser will have a faster release cycle so you'll receive new enhancements more frequently. If you’re on an older version of Android (pre-5), you won’t be able to download the new upgrade to Firefox for Android,” Mozilla explains.
