The reporter is doing a bad job or piping dictations from a wicked payer.

If the story is true then it's a victory for the telcos and the Nigerian banking public.

Why?

What the telcos have said is banks have no right to charge their customers for ussd because they are providing the service free to the banks, which were taking payments for it. So, now, it is either the banks pay the telcos or stop charging banking customers for ussd. It doesn't mean banks will continue to charge while the telcos and the banking public are treated as much.

All these people ehnnn.. ..
What is the difference....nor be say una scrap the payment completely oo
Una nor want make mobile network operators dey charge us from our airtime directly

Una want make those mobile network operators go settle and discuss with financial institutions (banks) on how the payment go be for using unstructured supplementary service data(USSD)....
Which means after the discussion between them
..then the banks go decide make we users still pay probably by deducting it through our bank account...
This is not fair na..

Some banks like UBA have already been making these deductions . Cash transfer costs an extra 26 naira while to check account balance attracts a surcharge of 10 naira. I just hope they won't be forced to increase it.

'The Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, noted that the commission had, in the interest of the consumers and other stakeholders, revised the determination previously issued by removing the Price Floor and the Cap to allow the MNOs and the banks negotiate rates that will be mutually beneficial to all parties concerned.'
The last paragraph (quoted above) clearly gives the banks and telcos all the powers they need to decide new USSD tariffs, whether they will favour the customers or not, because both telcos and banks won't go below initial rates,no matter the competition.
