Is there a Content Management System already written that you guys could use? Why re-invent the wheel?

Direct your energy toward building something that hasn't already been done.

For example, think of building an Internet communication system using voiceXML.
How about building a TV gateway that'll bring Nigerian Radio/TV stations online? I'm just thinking aloud here.

I know there's something out there worth spending valuable time on that'd be more beneficial than a CMS.

@oasis , I think most hacking it not necessary software vulnerability, some time it is just admin carelessness like oasis said.  Also many people use social engineering.  I know I have said many shoddy comments about PHP, PHP ROCKS.  I can program many languages with ease. I can program Perl, python, XML, Ada, pascal, c, c++, java and assemble language using Win32 debug.

Anyway, I have settled with Java now as it has a wide applicability in software industry today in terms of Enterprise Level Application and distributed system programming.

Well i don't think because we have alot out there should stop us from developing one. Wen we start together then we can venture into developing bigger things.

www.wazobialinux.com will tell. we discussed whether NIgeria should have her own version of linux on this forum; some say it will be a waste of time while some supported the view.

Though no one knew the project was on alreeady. Here comes the birth of wazobia-linux.

I am not saying things u mentioned above aint  good or we can't do it what am saying is we start from ground-up!

I have a lot of projects for which I need the assistance of programmers, so it's painful to me if I find them wasting their time creating something that is not really necessary.

Guys - so what have we decided to use? PHP or what, if we are using PHP, count me in. Secondaly, I will like to make a suggestion - there are countless PHP CMS and portals out there, if we go ahead and start one, we should keep in mind that there will be alot of bugs, how do we test, we will need some funding. In my view - let us take some GPL PHP framework, i.e joomla - borrow some code, add ours, change somethings and come out with something pretty good.

What do you guys say?

I think it will be a waste of time developing a CMS system.
This is why.
Most of the market leaders are being sold for so cheap that it will make it unattractive to develop a new syste.
Secondly, there are more that a dozen open source CMS applications out there with open licenses (released under GNU and the FSF) that anyone could customise for his/her use.
There are no copyright issues, all you do is credit the developers and notify them of any updates you have made.
I hope this helps.

I've been following this thread with some amusement for some time now. I don't know, but I think you guys are planning to re-invent the wheel -- lots of CMS solutions exist on the free market.

I think it'd be better if you just extended one of them -- or did something no one else has done before.

I didn't see this thread before I posted my announcement, while you are talking about building a cms there is one already in progress, I would like to invite those who are interested to join the project, The main system is open source but the application may or may not be open source depending on the developer, There will be a company that will support this system, If all you guys are after is money then I may not wanna work with anyone here, first prove yourself, I will pick partners for the company from the open source project, so if you can't show me what you can do then forget it,

I need:

php programmers
javascript programmers
technical writers
graphic designers
investors? you never know
