Don't blame Nigerians and don't try this in Nigeria.

An average Nigerian, even after agreeing to help you will suddenly start hearing different voices in his head.

"E be like say na how God wan take bless you be dis"

"opportunity comes but once"

"This year you will get your own car"

"2020, my year of advancement"

"God wee not come down from heaven to bless you, na person e go send" et cetra

He will even hear the voice of Nigeria economy screaming, "Recession! Recession!!" at last he will succumb to the voice.

And even if he doesn't he would have had to battle all these in his head.

Except he has the Holy Spirit inside him, then he won't even think twice before returning the car.

If I say it's a certain tribe that made the Northerners turn bad they'll come for me with their "Amaka" slogan

I don't think it's that kind of contentment emanating from docility. Every bird can fly high without hurting another, that's the definition of a real functional society, not honesty lived in a doldrums

Have you hear of the saying that a fish rots from the head?
If everybody were to know the right thing to do, there wouldn't have been any need for government. You can't expect to build a good society, when those that are supposed to champion the building process are actually at the forefront of destroying it. Stop blaming the people for the government's failures. Stop giving excuses for bad leaders. The people have a role to play, but the leaders should first of all lead by example. We all know that the reason corruption is striving in this country is because the government is corrupt. When we have a true man of integrity leading this country, only then can we say that corruption will end because he will be sincere in all his activities. He will not be selective and hypocritical about it. Our leaders are our major problem, not the people. When the leaders make up their minds to do the right thing, the people will have no choice than to obey. Infact, the negative image we have outside us as a result of the corruption in government.

We are a funny people. Nigerians blame government for Yahoo boys crimes. We lack the concept of taking responsibility for our actions.

It is so sad our value system has fully degraded. I remember back in Primary school where we read about village where people left their wares unattended to, just pick what you want and drop the money. Today such thinking will earn you derisive laughter.

You read?

When I was growing up it was the standard practice in my village. Try that now. Even 12 year olds in my village are cultists.

Op,
The government is everything.
If people know or fear the repercussion of their actions, they will be more careful.
In Nigeria, if you have connections, no repercussion for anything you do!

On the average, Nigerians are better human being than US, Zimbabwe, Chinese people.

Like I do always say, government is not the problem of Nigeria, but individuals. There's no excuse to be a thief, a thief is a thief. I've seen a lot of situations where Nigerians scam each others, is the government also responsible for that also. Nigerians just have bad mentality, all we could think of is getting joy by making others cry.
That's why we have laws. But unfortunately, our laws are weak and cannot bite. If you indict anybody for crime and he happens to know someone in the right office, he will escape punishment. When people realize that they will definitely be punished for their crimes, maybe some of them will behave well

Greed is our highest problem as a country. From my relationships with other Africans, I found out that they are highly contended and happy despite being poor. Hausas are like that too but my Igbo brethren, all we care about is money and more money. Trying to make it by all means.
Those people looting Nigeria dry from inception are they not hausas and Fulanis

You mean to say old Hausa, you can't even talk about the Fulanis most of them are criminals from birth maybe very few are saint.

I have met honest people in Nigeria too, with even a more convincing test.

I was in computer village, ikeja Lagos state to fix my phone's screen that broke. It was on a Thursday and all shops were meant to be closed due to lockdown restrictions.
Just like you know, some of them will surely still be by the roadside to hustle for customers. I was there explaining to the technician that want to fix my phone, when a car pulled over and the driver stretched out his hand and handed over his phone, (an iPhone for that matter) to the same guy to help add screen protector and a silicone case.
He paid right there and told the guy he is in a hurry to pick up someone at the airport that he would collect it when he his returning. He dropped his contact card and didn't even bother to collect the guys contact before he drove off.

Everyone was surprised including the guy, because he has never met the man before and there was no traceable location because everywhere was locked.

I think it's better you thank your star that you met a good Zimbabwean.
Just like I use to pray to always encounter good Nigerians

Bad people are everywhere likewise good people.
Typical Nigerian, always try to shift goal post, hope u also read a part where he said he stayed for six(6) months and no single reported case of crime in the city.. can such also happen in nigeria?

I am tired of this country.
I am not 100% sure, our country was change even in the next 20yrs because even we the youths, are following the footstep of our today governors, presidents, etc.Just small position in the University like SUG president,Treasurer etc, students start behave like, mtcheeew i don't know what to describe them as.Fights here and there, money meant to help the betterment f the students are taken for their own selfish reasons.
Just imagine if they are given top positions in this country.I weep for Nigeria.

But where do the leaders come from?

From another country or from among the citizens?

The answer to this question will help you see why the citizens are to blame.
the citizens are not the the major problem, most of us here right now were born into a failed nation, it would be difficult for a child born in Nigeria right now to grow up morally upright, nigeria's failure began from our so called founding fathers who failed to lay the moral and civil foundation for nation building, most Nigerians are just trying to adapt into a very corrupt and failed nation they were born into, this people in turn take this mentality into governance and leadership. for us to move forward as a nation it will take a right political leadership to get us out of this mess because it was through leadership we got it wrong in the first place.

Abegi shut up oh jare.... just as there are bad people or greedy people as you said in nigerian likewise every part of the world.

You should thanking your stars you met a honest person if not you would have been in a hot soup not coming here to post rubbish.

Yes we nigerians are 'fantastically' corrupt but so is the rest of the world. We take bribe they also take bribe, but they now label their own to 'lobby' and our own to bribe.

Who de fool who ? who taught us this corruption ? was Nigeria like this Pre-Independence

I still believe there are good, honest, and contented Nigerians out there, because I have met with some.

I would blame this present generation for how bad things have decayed. Rather I blame our parents because the pressure from them to make it is so much for our young shoulders that we result to a quick way to make money. And we adopt the slogan 'Make money or die trying'

Our parents are now lax on teaching us good morals from tender age As their parents did to them. May God help Us

The truth is that Nigeria still have many truthful and trustworthy individuals but the noises that comes with the sins of the dubious ones are louder. I can not blow my own trumpet but I will tell you that I have met someone here on Nairaland, we both live in Nigeria but have not seen apart from WhatsApp pictures and voice calls. We have had transactions now for over 6 years. The transaction started from about N10,000 - N15,000 and it has gone far beyond that. But I have never had any reason to go look for him to get back my money.

I will send him money, he will send me goods without noise. So the generalisation of bad behaviour on all Nigerians is not fair..
